12/10/01 the other Portland, East coast stompin'

...okay, today was a day off in Portland, Maine, and as the final Extended Midget Tour date is tomorrow, it was time for the end of tour party. Jimmy Eat World had to do some sort of radio station stuff back down in Baltimore, so they were supposed to show up late, but i didnt see them before I left so i dont know if they made it. Anyway, the scene was "The Skinny", a club in Portland that was rented out for the night for the bands and crew, with some good catering for dinner. Now, Skinny's is a live music venue, and they just so happened to have a stage with a bunch of house-owned gear set up for shows... and after everyone had had their feastings and imbibings, an unplanned jam erupted, featuring Rivers on drums, Pat on Bass, K.G. on electric(!) guitar, and Jack Black on vocals. There were no video cameras on hand to record the unexpected historic session, and a hastily set up radio shack tape recorder did a terrible job in capturing the hilarious proceedings, so there is little besides pictures and memories now. This supergroup, now known as "Portland, What?", and/or "The Power Station II" ran through "the best parts" (as Jack put it) of the following classic trax!

1. Just What I Needed (The Cars)
2. Footloose (Kenny Loggins)(Rivers sez: "Beard Rock!")
3. Love Me 2 Times (The Doors)
4. Hot Blooded (Foreigner)
5. Good Times, Bad Times (Led Zeppelin)
6. "5 o'clock this morning" (????)
7. More Than A Feeling (Boston)
8. Sunshine of Your Love (Cream) (horrible tape started here)
9. Pinball Wizard (the Who)
10. Enter Sandman (Metallica)
11. Dont Fear The Reaper (Blue Oyster Cult)
12. Sister Christian (Night Ranger)(Acappella only)
13. Crazy Train (Ozzy Osbourne)
14. Something (The Beatles)
15. Highway To Hell (AC/DC)
16. Smoke On The Water (Deep Purple)
17. Golden Slumbers/The End(Abby Road bits) (The Beatles)
18. Free Bird (Lynyrd Skynyrd)

...note that on further inspection, the tape did a REALLY horrible job. if I can salvage anything I will, but so far the only song i can even hear at all is #14...
