Template:Edit this template

[edit] Template-info.svg.png Template documentation

The Edit this template template is used to make it easier to access templates from the pages that they're placed on. Prior to this template, if you were to catch an error in a template, you would need to either type its name into the search bar, or access it via the "templates used on this page" section that displays below the "Save this page" button of on a edit page. This template aims to simplify that by giving a direct link to the template page on whatever page it has been transcluded to.

This template can be displayed on the right or left upper corners of where you're putting it on a page (i.e. within a table).

Use

Check out the "Edit this template" link to the right. Edit this template

That link - which leads to Template:Ozma Discography - has been generated with the following code:

{{Template:Edit this template|Ozma Discography}}

The above code is inserted into Template:Ozma Discography as shown below:

This will then appear in the Ozma discography template, as seen here on the page for Doubble Donkey Disc:

Right/left justify

This template makes use of "default" parameters to automatically display right-justified. This posed a problem with Navboxes, so this template provides the option of entering a third parameter:

{{Template:Edit this template|Ozma Discography|left}}

Produces:

Edit this template

The "default" position of the template is to justify right. If it's left blank (as in the first example on this page), it will display to the right. You can, of course, type "right" in this third parameter as well.

{{Template:Edit this template|Ozma Discography|right}}

Produces:

Troubleshooting

  • Notice that "Ozma Discography" is all the template needs to work right. Do not use "Template:Ozma Discography." If you do, the template will give you this:

Edit this template

{{Template:Edit this template|Template:Ozma Discography}}
That link leads to Template:Template:Ozma Discography, which, of course, doesn't exist! Though I'm sure Moon will try to figure out how we can make such a template in the future, we don't have one yet.
  • "Center" does not work in the third parameter.
