Templates

IMPORTANT any template you make you need to Protect so regular users can't change them. Otherwise we'll have a HUGE mess if vandals start rewriting them. Tell martin too.

Also, try and keep the category tags clean, see Special:Categories. Some of the templates you added have category tags that don't really need to be there. like the ones you added from wikipedia. you know? - Soupandballoons (admin) 06:32, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I've been meaning to go back through and clean things up and protect them. I've been busy as of late and I was just focused on getting them to work for the time being. I'll get it all sorted out. - Megasnorkel (admin)
Okay, categories are cleaned up. I'll go on a protection spree tomorrow. - Megasnorkel (admin)
Awsome work dude. - Soupandballoons (admin) 06:32, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
Is there a chance we might get the flagicon template? I would look nice on the tour pages. Example -Donny 10:39, 13 July 2009 (EDT)
Nice suggestion, Donny. I'll look into it when I get the chance. --Megasnorkel (admin) 16:47, 14 July 2009 (EDT)
I've figured it out myself. Template:Flag. I already used it on some of the tour pages. Make Believe Tour for example --Donny 10:35, 22 July 2009 (EDT)

Talk pages

btw i just figured out how we use these talk pages, check it out: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Talk_pages. I think I'll c&p it to a local help page on Weezerpedia so new users will see it. - Soupandballoons (admin) 06:32, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
Good job! Figuring this wiki stuff out can be a pain. I'm glad you're around. Good call on the c&p. - Megasnorkel (admin) 18:22, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

Transcripts

I just created this page: Weezerpedia:Transcripts; a nice little list of all the transcripts of interviews, conversations, etc. on Weezerpedia. If you have a better idea let me know. - Soupandballoons (admin) 09:15, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Actually dude, let's just label them with the Category:Transcripts tag, easier that way. - Soupandballoons (admin) 09:32, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Other

I just saw that you rearranged the Main Page news/featured sections. It looks much better. - Soupandballoons (admin) 10:13, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

New Main Page sections

Alright, I re-did the Main Page sections so we can do Featured articles etc. in advanced, so when the date changes, the Main Page sections will change also.

The news is still the same, you have complete control and still have to manually copy it from karls corner, but it's now here: Weezerpedia:News

The new stuff is a little different then anything else we've done before.

We have pages like this now:

which are all specific pages for a featured article on that day. At 12:00 AM on September 10 the featured article section on the Main Page will automatically change to show the content thats on this page: Weezerpedia:Today's_featured_article/September_10,_2008

Also see: Weezerpedia:Today's_featured_article

I'm working on doing a similar thing with "What happened on this day..." kind of thing.

Does that make sense? You might have to look through the code to get a full understanding. It's a lot more organized and acts more like 'always changing' front page should. It's pretty close to how Wikipedia does their Main page too. - Soupandballoons (admin) 08:24, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

Looks great! I'll look into it some more tomorrow. Glad you figured out how to do that. I was looking into the same sort of thing.Megasnorkel (admin) 05:22, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

Infoboxes

I think we should have an infobox for artists. e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rivers_Cuomo - Soupandballoons (admin) 22:49, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

We do have one, actually. I finished it a couple days after the album infobox. Template:Infobox_musician. - Megasnorkel (admin) 02:16, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
oh i didn't see that. very cool.

hey man:

the cor link you gave me was broken
how do i add more than 1 alternate cover
how do i add a category
how do i add that stuff to my profile
where do i upload images for pages
can i be an admin ;)

what's this http://weezerpedia.com/wiki/index.php?title=Templage:Weezer Should it be "Template" not "Templage"?
I didn't do that one, actually. I think ohjonas did. But it probably should be "Template". Check with him on that - I don't even think that template is necessary.Megasnorkel (admin) 21:17, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

party on garth

thanks for deleteing that AWF page.

MyNameIsJason 01:21, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Unfortunately, it was necessary. At first I thought it was sort of funny, but then again, it wasn't really mocking him. It was just documenting the saga. I'd really like to chat with you on AIM sometime about the whole thing...ohjonas and I aren't just heartless guys picking on someone with a mental illness...there's plenty of back story. Nothing I want to get into now. But I hope you noticed it that it wasn't me or ohjonas or any of the registered users that created the page. Later home skillet.
-- Megasnorkel (admin) 01:26, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
oh no dude i totally understand the whole thing. at least i think i do. I'm sure he harassed the hell out of you. And hell, I hate having him on the boards. His posts are annoying as hell, he causes trouble, and usually all his topics just boil down to him yelling at people. But I don't think he deserves to have a page about him. That's going a little far. And even though it didn't pick on him, he doesn't need his saga documented.
MyNameIsJason 01:40, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
I dunno dude...he just might get there one day
--ohjonas (admin) 03:06, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

interview

are those the final questions being sent to Karl? are there gonna be any more changes? MyNameIsJason 15:13, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Those are (roughly) the questions that I asked Karl on Friday. Martin will be asking Karl more questions tomorrow, though. And I will be sending him more of the fan questions that didn't get asked when the tape ran out. Oops. Megasnorkel (admin) 16:14, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
thanks for doing that interview. it's awesome. keep on keepin on. MyNameIsJason 07:40, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
the interview is great snorkle --Soupandballoons (admin) 08:15, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

new page

how do you make a new page without having to actually click on a dead link?

-city

Simply search for the title of the EXACT TITLE of the article that you want to create. Click the create article link. Also, please end your messages on talk pages with:

chat

hey man, chat room meetin?

--City After Six 00:53, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

If it's an important meeting, it should probably be on AIM instead. AIM: mynameiswaylon --Megasnorkel (admin) 01:15, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

ok sure, i have you added, come online

Karl's Corner

No problem. I was just copying and pasting some stuff and didn't think too much about it.

--Donny 16:46, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

Hey. I've noticed that you're working on the Karl's Corner entries again. Did you notice the Infobox I used for the newer entries? I found them very helpful as they allow you to browse through all the entries without going back to the main Karl's Corner page. But if you don't think they are needed than tell me and I will remove them. I think it's important that we have some consistency here. What do you think? --Donny 04:36, 13 August 2009 (EDT)
Well, I agree that we need some consistency. I did see that you were doing the infobox thing. I'm not quite sure how I feel about it. I'll see what I can come up with as far as a little navigation box goes. Maybe something that can go at the bottom of the page. I think you have the right idea, but I might tinker around a bit. How does that sound?

P.S. - Did you receive the email that I sent out to everyone? Any thoughts? -- Megasnorkel (admin) 13:59, 13 August 2009 (EDT)

Yeah, the main purpose of the infobox was that you can navigate through the blogs. So you can read all the updates like a book. If you know what I mean. A navigation bar at the bottom of the page is a good idea. To be honest, most of the things I put in the infobox are redundant anyway. (Actually I just renamed parts if the song box template really quickly)
Another thing we should try to do is using the Karl's Corner pages as references for various articles. That will reduce the amount of speculation in some of the articles and will make the "KK" pages more accessible. Because I think they are a little hard to find.
I also thought about a special bar that could be added to the all the dates if an update was made on that day. Like when you look at the article August 12 there will be a bar at the bottom of the page that links to Karl's Corner of that day. I don't know if that is even possible as my skills at making templates are as clumsy as my English (which is the reason I only edit and create list or dates).
And yes, I did get the email. I think it's great that Weezerpedia is getting some exclusive interviews. I wouldn't ask on any boards for questions though. But I would always try to ask some questions that will fill some of the gaps in the Weezer (and Weezer related) history we have. --Donny 14:36, 13 August 2009 (EDT)
Haven't worked on it for very long, but what do you think of these options? -- Megasnorkel (admin) 16:52, 13 August 2009 (EDT)
Option 1 is looking great. That's about what I had in mind. The space between May and June is missing. But besides that it's fantastic. Tell me if I can use if for the new pages. I'll remove my infoboxes and delete the template as soon as you have this nav bar finished. --Donny 04:05, 14 August 2009 (EDT)
I'm going to tinker around with a bit later today. I'll let you know when it's ready. --Megasnorkel (admin) 07:58, 14 August 2009 (EDT)

Colorado link

I don't know if Jonas has told you about this yet, but the flippin Rentals link to to Weezerpedia page on Colorado on their site, it's awesome. go to the little "Rentals History" thing and click on Colorado under Discography. It takes you straight to the WP page. --MyNameIsJason 21:20, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

On this day new code

I've changed the 'On this day...' section on the Main Page so it's a little easier to manage. Before we were using the system that I set up with Selected Anniversaries which meant we had a date page, like April 15, and we also had to have a page called Weezerpedia:Selected_anniversaries/April_15. This meant two pages for each date had to be maintained. Anyway, we no longer need Selected Anniversaries, what is on the date page itself will show up under the 'On this day' section. If you want you can mass delete all the pages that start with "Weezerpedia:Selected_anniversaries/" because they are no longer necessary.

Also you might read the top part of this page - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Transclusion to see how different types of Transclusions work aside from regular Templates and Namespaces. When you include a template in a page you use {{Template:TemplateName}} or simply {{TemplateName}}, you know that. What I had overlooked, and why we used the Selected Anniversaries, was how to include a normal page, without a specific namespace, inside another page. That can be done with something like this {{:Pinkerton}} or {{:Geffen}}. Just use the colon in front of the page you want to Transclude within the brackets.

The only other thing to note is that because date pages have categories for their months, Ex. April 15 has the category Category:April. This will be transcluded into the On This Day section and puts the Main Page in the April category for the time being. So we might think about using <noinclude></noinclude> tags around the categories on date pages, but I'll think more about that.

I'm going to post this to Martin's page to so he knows how the 'On this day' section has changed. --Soupandballoons 01:14, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

plans for the future

Hey.
I'm not sure how often everyone has been editing here, but my productivity with =wp= has steadily decline of late. I plan on changing this! I'm promising myself that I am going to edit 1 page a day. Yesterday, I made Josh Freese, and today I beefed 367. Hopefully I can start contributing like the good ol' days, cuz =wp= is important to me. keep it on the up. - MNIJ.

check out the talk page for COR. I'm in need of assistance! --MyNameIsJason 05:00, 27 March 2010 (EDT)

installing extensions

hey. I'm tinkering around with possibly making the entire Gallery page one big image map, and I'm having some trouble. Do we have an imagemap extension installed? What the hell is an extension? Do you know what I'm talking about at all? I'm sending this to all the mods to see what's going on. I have the code for the imagemap made (i used this to make it), but i don't know what to do from there. if it's any help, the code is saved in the Sandbox. the extension can be found here. thanks.
--MyNameIsJason 07:16, 26 August 2010 (EDT)

logo above the nav bar

the logo above the nav bar says ecyclopedia! I uploaded a new version of the logo that we use on the Weezerpedia page that has that typo fixed. is there any way we can swap out that typo one? --MyNameIsJason 01:28, 27 October 2010 (EDT)

Chrono and KC pics

hey, I've seen that you've uploaded a few pictures recently. Are you working on a collector's dicography? nice. If you need more scans, let me know. I have a few rare CDs as well.

I remember that you uploaded a lot of the Karl's Corner pics a while ago (actually years ago by now, haha). With the help of Karl, I set up the Super-Chrono as accurate as I could. Still there are a lot of images missing. Especially the ones from old (pre-2000) Chrono entries. You don't happen to have those images in their original size? Karl said he could provide them, but I don't want to bug him too much. --Donny 07:08, 4 April 2012 (EDT)

Hey Donny! Yeah, I'm finally ready to get back to working on the site. I was computer less for quite a while. And you know, Raditude. Ha. Slowly I will begin working on the Collector's Discography. I have a CDR with a bunch of scans that a mega collector sent me before we even launched =wp=. I'm just now getting around to editing them (cropping, rotating where needed, etc). It's pretty time consuming, so it's going to take me quite a bit to get it off the ground. Will let you know if I need any other scans.
I don't have access to any of the larger pictures from the old Super Chrono. That was one of my big sticking points back in '08 when I started copying news stories from .net off of archive.org. Karl would be the man to talk to. The best suggestion I can give is to go to this page. It's a listing of every page that was posted in that directory. (The Super Chrono and its pics were posted under the /karlscorner/ directory.) After that page loads you can filter the results by ".jpg" or "big" or whatever.
Not sure if that helps very much. Archive.org didn't catch everything. ...you may just have to bug Karl. It would be worth it! --Megasnorkel 00:58, 5 April 2012 (EDT)
Thanks for your answer. Yes, I think I've exhausted archive.org's resources already. Haha. But I just found a very old post on allthingsweezer from Greg (weerez.com) saying that Karl sent him everything for the (now shut down) Media Gallery back in 2009. I wrote him a PM asking for the pics. I'll just have to wait and see, I guees.
But that leads me to my next question. Is there an easier/quicker way to upload pics than using the "Upload multiple files" page? That page can only upload 10 files at once. And right now, I need to upload hundreds of images. How did you do it when you uploaded all the Karl's Corner pics from 2000? --Donny 10:58, 10 April 2012 (EDT)
I hope that Greg is willing to get those to you. I'm pretty sure that I initially started uploading all those pics ONE AT A TIME. I had to install the multi-upload page so that I could get around that truly horrible process. Of course when I started working on Weezerpedia I had no job, no girlfriend, and I worked on the site for around 12 hours a day. So I didn't really mind the repetitive picture uploading process. Haha.
I don't have access to the server anymore, so I don't think that I can install any new scripts or pages so that we can upload whole folders of pictures at once. I'll do some poking around. If I find a solution, I'll see if Karl can work on it for us. -- Megasnorkel 11:38, 10 April 2012 (EDT)
One at a time? Holy shit. Haha, then I guess I should be happy with 10.--Donny 12:24, 10 April 2012 (EDT)

Update: Karl hooked me up. Yay! --Donny 07:04, 3 May 2012 (EDT)

spotify sessions

should this be added to the discography infobox as an ep? i wrote a page for it. Spotify Sessions
