Fan recollection
Attendee Christian wrote about the concert on the fan site Weezer Whenever:[4]
I saw Weezer in Columbia, MO back in 1994 a few weeks after the Blue Album hit the shelves. I was a freshman in college and remember that fall day well. Before taking stage at the Hearnes Center that night, (which is a large multi-plex that the University of MIssouri had devided in half because they weren't expecting all of us Weezer lovers to sell out the show, even cooler because it made the show more intimate and very loud) they played a little accoustic gig at a cool record store called Streetside. There, amongst tons of students wearing bright blue Weezer T-shirts, I was able to get a pack of Marlbaro Lights signed by the whole band. Which needless to say was rad. (still have it, never to be on Ebay) What I didn't realize at the time, was that that day would become the favorite memory of my college experience, let alone decide forever who my favorite band was. Weezer took stage at the Hearnes Center around 10 or 11. They opened up with "Surf Wax America" and drilled that rythym guitar into everyones' bones. Of course, they played the whole Blue Album plus some, with an energy level and fun attitude that I had never seen before. "Undone" was so tight and tastey, I could have heard them play it all night, especially the killer guitar solo in that song. It was soaring. And "Only in Dreams" was every bit as awesome. Especialy the loud vocal harmony at the end. The coolest part though, came after "Jonas". For some reason the crowd had subdued just a little and quieted for like 5 seconds, and I decided to yell "weezer fucking rocks!" as loud as I could. Rivers heard it (I was like 5 rows back) and while grabbing another pick he looked right in my general direction and said "don't you ever forget it". I didn't. Weezer is my favorite band by far, and the most refreshing can of rock soda out there. The rest is history. Keep making music guys.
Go =w=.
