Weezerpedia Discord Q&A with Karl Koch - October 2022

justinhoenke: Karl do you prefer ECCE HOMO or EWBAITE?

Karl: well, the funny thing is, Ecce Homo had about 30 modifications over time, and im not sure any specific version was exactly right for me personally. EWBAITE i feel is a stronger album overall, and has only one real flaw, its missing 'Rules Of Life'. That would have made a good 1st or 2nd track.

notkarlophone: I agree, would have been awesome to have rules on ewbaite as well as flight plans.

Karl: disagree on flight plans. never felt right to me

Burnst Jamp: Karl, what do the 5 test pressings of "I Must Find..." look like? And, were they ever distributed in any way?

Karl: can supply photo (not at the moment, theyre at HQ V2.0 which im still setting up). basically plain white labels. I intended on having a contest to give some away, but never did, so i still have all 5.

Jason B: I made this page earlier today - wonder if you can clarify how different/similar Weezer's version is to the Wax version?

https://www.weezerpedia.com/wiki/Conversationalist

Karl: its a fairly straight cover version of "So Much Talk" except it starts where "So Much Talk" is at 2:30. It usually disintegrated after about 2-3 minutes of raucous repetition (sort of like the original).
If i can just say, Wax at their peak was a powerhouse! They were everything weezer couldnt figure out how to do back then. Joe Sib was MAX ENERGY and it was such a breath of fresh air in the cooler than thou LA scene back then.
