Maladroit Demos
From Weezerpedia
The Maladroit Demos were recordings made by Weezer in late December 2001, which quickly evolved into the recording of the band's fourth album, Maladroit. The phrase is often used as a blanket term to describe a series of different demo and live recordings of then-new songs throughout 2001, which includes:
- The DC Demos
- The BBC Sessions
- The SnS Demos
- The Extended Midget Tour
- The Steak House Demos
- The Cello Demos
- The Glenn Sound Demos
Songs from these sessions were all written by Rivers Cuomo and recorded with the intention of being considered for inclusion on a fourth album. More specifically, however, demos for Maladroit truly began in earnest at the end of the year. In total, thirty-two songs were demoed. These include:
- "Acapulco" (formerly "Puerto Vallarta")
- "Ain't Got Much Time"
- "American Gigolo"
- "Better Off Alone"
- "Broken Arrows" (formerly "Love Canopy")
- "Burndt Jamb"
- "Change The World"
- "Death and Destruction"
- "December"
- "Don't Pick On Me" (formerly "Big Chip")
- "Dope Nose" (a 'rescued' SS2K track)
- "Fall Together"
- "High Up Above"
- "How Long"
- "Keep Fishin'"
- "Listen Up"
- "Living Without You"
- "Love Explosion" (formerly "Do You Want Me To Stay?")
- "Mr. Taxman"
- "Porcupine" (formerly "Spend Some Time")
- "Possibilities"
- "Sandwiches Time"
- "Saturday Night"
- "Seafaring Jamb" (formerly "My Weakness")
- "Serendipity" (initially "Serendipitous Jam")
- "Slave"
- "Slob" ( a 'rescued' SS2K track)
- "Space Rock"
- "Take Control"
- "We Go Together"
- "Your Room"
- "Zep Song"
At least one version of each of these songs, recorded between December 2001 and February 2002, were released as free mp3s at the band's official site. This allowed the fans to critique the songs, and offer their opinions to Cuomo at message boards.
