"Please Let That Be You" is the fifth track and third single from The Rentals' debut album, Return of the Rentals. It is a reworking of "Mrs. Young," a 1993 song written by Matt Sharp.

Overview
The earlier version of the track is listed as "Jamie II" on the Weezer Recording History, and like "Jamie", these earlier lyrics are an ode to Jamie Young, the band's lawyer at the time of their signing to Geffen Records. Sharp wrote the bulk of the song, but for the recording asked Rivers Cuomo for help with "some parts and harmonies" as the recording history states.
"Mrs.Young" was, at one point, considered a Weezer track and was going to accompany "Jamie" on an independently released single. However, with the band signing to Geffen records, plans for the single were scrapped.
The song was recorded by Matt as a demo for The Rentals, and was eventually rewritten as "Please Let That Be You" and included on the band's debut album. The melody and chords are the same in both versions, but the lyrics and aesthetics differ, with "Please Let That Be You" being more synth based.
Demo recordings of "Mrs. Young" can be found on The Rentals' 2001 fan club-exclusive release Excellent Stocking Stuffer.
At Cuomo and Sharp's reunion performance show at Cal State Fullerton, the original incarnation, "Mrs. Young", was performed live. This performance can be viewed on YouTube. During this time, the two were working together on a collaborative project, which never came to fruition.
Cover
The song was covered by Ash in 2008, available only as a download as part of a Rentals tribute EP.

"Please Let That Be You" lyrics
Lost out in the machinery
Lifeless, slow and cold
Alone at home, alone too long
Walk around the complex
No visitors, no oxygen
Just me, no movement
Please let that be you
Knocking on my door so loud
Just like you'd do
Bringing a message or two
You know, you are my fav.
And I love you
Empty, everything's technical
Sterile and endless
Inside, I malfunction
Observe and obsess
Please let that be you
Ringing my phone right now
Like I wish you would do
Calling with some good news
You know, you are my fav.
And I love you
You are my fav. and I love you
Stand by my side, always be true
You are my fav. and I love you
I raise my right hand and swear it's true
You are my fav., you are my fav.
Please let that be you
Singing my song so nice sounding like you do
Just humming along to your tune
You know, you are my fav.
And I love you
"Mrs. Young" lyrics
Jamie says, "Since you called yesterday.
I have felt so swell."
Come back, come back from Mexico.
I need your strength, I need your help.
Hey Denney, won't you put me through?
I miss you both, can't you tell?
Please let that be you.
Knockin on my door so loud, just like you do.
Bringin a letter or two,
Jamie you are my fave, and I love you.
Hey Mitch, what you guys been up to?
How's prince, is he okay?
Mrs. Young, I think you're the best
That's all, I'm trying to say.
Please let that be you.
Ringin' my phone right now, like I wish you would do.
Callin' with some good news.
Jamie you are my fave and I love you.
You are my fave, and I love you.
Stand by my side, always be true.
You are my fave, and I love you.
I raise my right hand, and swear it's true.
You are my fave.
Please let that be you.
Singin my song so nice sounding like you do.
Hummin along to your tune.
Jamie you are my fave and I love you.
