Ric Ocasek (born Richard Otcasek on March 23, 1949, in Baltimore, Maryland) was a guitarist, lead vocalist and primary songwriter for the massively succesful new wave band The Cars. He has also been a producer for several bands including Weezer, Bad Brains, No Doubt, Guided by Voices, and Suicide. For Weezer, he produced The Blue Album in 1994, and The Green Album in 2001.

To their surprise, Geffen made it happen. Ocasek's wife, model Paulina Porizkova, is said to have inspired The Rentals' "Friends of P.".
