weezer 7/8/24: Rivers went on a “weezer pilgrimage” in Buffalo, NY, to learn more about the origins of our drummer Patrick, and some early key players in the formation of weezer, Pat Finn and Karl
Pilgrimage route….
1. Patrick Wilsons childhood home, Clarence Center
2. Clarence HS, Patrick Wilsons school
3. Eastern Hills Mall, inspiration for “In The Mall”
4. 4590 Genesee St., Gas station near airport, Patrick’s workplace Spring ‘90, where Pat Finn and PW planned their move to Los Angeles
5. 2790 Sheridan, site of Music Mart, Patrick Wilson’s workplace, where he met Pat Finn in late 1989.
6. 1472 Hertel Ave, site of Mr Grouchos club, 1st show played by Pat Finn (w/John Drenning, Allen Farmelo, Randy Metz, guest soloing by Howie Simon, as “The Smegmatics”) 1/10/86.
7. Nichols School, Karl and John Drenning’s school, ‘partial alma mater’ of Pat Finn, site of much music creation, skateboarding, 1985-7. (Note that while were filming there, a text from John came through right at that moment- and though John couldn’t have known what was going on, his text (see slide) was… weirdly hilariously appropriate)
8. Delaware Park. Site of Pat Finn’s “The Way Of The Bass” photoshoot w/Karl, late 1989.
9. Karls house, home of “the weezer Vault”. (Only available on Rivers’s personal pilgrimage)
There are other “weezer spots”, like 532 Auburn (where Pat and Patrick first jammed on music together), the site of “Blind Mellons” on Aero Drive (burned down), Karl’s original house (in Derby), and other places Pat Finn lived - and even hosted the band in, back in ‘94. Buffalo is just one of the “hometowns” where weezer came from, but its pretty key as without Pat Finn, its unlikely weezer would have ever formed, because the original members - and Karl - would not have met! @patrickjfinn @karlophone @drenning #weezerpilgramage #finnscorner #inthemall #karlscorner
