"A Punk Named Josh" is the third single from the debut album by Chopper One. Though the song did not initially appear on Now Playing, it was included on the Japanese version of the album, and appeared as the fifth track (in place of the song "Mary's Clothes") when the album was reissued in 1998 as simply Chopper One.

Overview

The CD single release includes both the radio edit of the song, a "clean" edit of the song, and the album version. Some versions of the single also include a 28-second track labeled as a "call-out hook". "A Punk Named Josh" is the only song on the band's studio LP to feature the second lineup of the band (including Dallan Baumgarten on guitar and Troy Zeigler on drums).

Lyrics

When I was young, there was a kid named Josh
He was a real punk rocker
He had two tattoos and he wore a leather jacket
And he looked just like Mad Max
We tried to be cool but it really didn't work
By writing Black Flag "Four" on our lockers
Then one day he just disappeared
And I finally felt like I could relax

He was a punk named Josh and he really was an asshole
And we had lots of fun but it really was a hassle
He was a punk named Josh and he got bad grades
And he had lots of pimples but he always got laid

When Josh came back from his punk rock adventures
Doing drugs and running from the law
He had two new tattoos of an anarchy symbol
And a pretty girl named Roxanne
His dad was really pissed and sent Josh to rehab
'Cause that's where punk kids go (oh no!)
But he ran away again and the last I heard
Someone saw him at a (punk rock show!)

He was a punk named Josh and he really was an asshole
And we had lots of fun but it really was a hassle
He was a punk named Josh and he got bad grades
And he had lots of pimples but he always got laid

He was a punk named Josh
He was a punk named Josh
He was tough in the mosh
He was a punk named Josh
He was a dirty thug-like child high on sauce

He was a punk named Josh and he really was an asshole
And we had lots of fun but it really was a hassle
He was a punk named Josh and he got bad grades
And he had lots of pimples but he always got laid

He was a punk named Josh
And he wore ripped jeans but his dad didn't like it
You know his dad was kinda mean
He was a punk named Josh and he really didn't care
When he had a problem he'd yell ("Aww, dude")
And he had funny hair

He was a punk named Josh
He was a punk named Josh
He was a punk named Josh
He was a punk named Josh

Dude, that sucked!
