"Blessed are the GEEKS..."
"For they shall inherit the earth!"
The goofy US punks may be ugly. But they're no mugs.
Their latest album has sold over a MILLION copies. And their stunning new single Buddy Holly is a chart smash.
It's mainly down to the song's great spoof video which recreates the set of the hit TV comedy Happy Days. The wacky band, dressed in tacky 50s gear, are seen performing with the show's favourite characters like The Fonz.
It's a Weezer of a wheeze.
But the group will revert to their super-wimp image of black-rimmed specs, Parka jackets and... EARPLUGS for their next tour.
And Scots geeks are sure to be out in force when Weezer play a one-off gig at the Garage in Glasgow on June 20.
Singer/guitarist Rivers Cuomo just can't understand their appeal.
"I grew up in little farm towns away from anything remotely cool," he said.
"I was so small and insignificant that at school I was known as the runt of the litter and nicknamed Weezer. I kept it for the name of the band as I felt it summed us up. At 18, I freaked out and moved to Los Angeles to become a rock star. But I soon realized I was a complete idiot and gave up."
"At the same time my girlfriend left me. It was the best thing that ever happened. I was feeling so sorry for myself that I started to write songs. The rest is history."
"Now we stand up for the rights of losers everywhere and there are plenty of them."
"The revenge of the dorks starts here!"
