Today was day 2 of the attack of the nasty illness. While no new cases were reported, the afflicted trio of Rivers, Pat and the tour manager were still struggling with their flu-style symptoms. Pat woke up feeling really nasty, and asked to be excused from soundcheck so he could sleep. Luckily another drumming Patrick, the one from Ozma, filled in for Pat during soundcheck. The extra rest seemed to help Pat out a lot, and he was ready to turn in a solid set plus a bonus guitar wheedling during the post Surf Wax feedback insanity. Rivers was feeling somewhat better than yesterday overall, while the tour manager struggled thru the day. With luck no one else will get touched by the sickness, and the day off in warm (?) Tampa may do wonders to those coughing up nasty things...

Fan recollection

Attendee Dave recounted the concert in an e-mail to Karl Koch:[1]

i have just returned to my safe home at the bubble that is the wake forest university. i had a good two hour ride to contemplate and gather my thoughts, as well as nap, about the just attended weezer concert. wow did that rock. where to start...

first, when we got there, we learned that "general admission" meant, crappy seats that allow very little rocking. however, by the time OZMA's set was done, we were determined to find some way of making it to the floor. we encountered some older gentlemen with wristbands who seemed to have no intention of rocking. there was a lot of sass given by the workers at the coliseum regarding us getting on the floor. then we ran around and found out through the "grapevine" that if we went to customer/visitor services, there were girls giving out wrist bands and x'ing our tickets.

we ran down stairs, the first place we went down they wouldnt let us in because there wasnt a "door" -- silly workers -- we ran back up and ran down to a proper "door". we got down there and ran into the middle of everything, STD was in about the second song of their set. my party of five or so were then dispersed amongst the rockers. STD got the party started and then i saw one of my friends being surfed right by me. silly friends.

by the time they got to 'at my funeral' it sure was alive. after the song there was about forty-five minutes of set changing and what not. the most popular joke going on at this point was "who farted?!" oh those silly north carolinians. the mosh pit/floor was all about jockeying for position. hip and feet placement were crucial.

when the lights went down, there was a whole lot of hootin' and hollerin'. i dug it very much. i seemed to be pretty well versed in the =w= so people asked me what the first and last songs were, they were excited at the prospect of island and surf wax. very neat. island got the deserved response of "yeah!", as did garage with a bit more emphatic "yeah!!" but dope nose really got "the party started..." people were diggin' the "oh's" as well as rivers' neat toboggan hat. scott, decked out in a leather vest, was obviously ready to rock, and had a very rock and roll pose anytime i looked over in that direction. brian also seemed very "classy" rock in his suit and into it guitar playing. pat seemed a bit distraught, but reading the reports of his illness, it's understandable. however, he did throw out a few bottle caps into the crowd. very thrilling.

midway through the show, rivers took off his jacket bringing about a lot of prepubescent yelling. his response, a boyish grin and a coy, "thank you", pretty much made it clear that he was havin' a good time. undone was brilliant just because it's a rad song.

my personal favorite part was good life, because it reminds me that i am a funky dude. hash pipe seemed to be a crowd favorite, but only in dreams was magical to say the least. the encore was met with a lot of enthusiasm, when the =w= came down, it seemed like some people were in a state of peace and rockin'.

the floor was rough. lots of pushing and excitement, i think it was good in the sense that people were pumped to see weezer, but it also took away from the smaller people's point of views, or so they seemed to voice.

all in all there was a lot of fun being had, despite the coliseum's difficulties in getting the floor situated. the band seemed to be having a blast, and i did too. after the show was over i sat on the floor, my clothes stretched out and wet from all of the sweat during the show, and i thought to myself, "wow. that rocked."
