The Weezer Collectors Discography is an attempt to document all known promotional and commercially released vinyl, CDs, cassettes, DVDs, etc. that Weezer has put out (or appeared on) one way or another since the early days till present day. In addition, a new appendix is being added to cover non music merchandise - t-shirts, posters, accessories etc. Like all Weezer Info pages, the Collector's Discography is a continuing work in progress, so remember to check back if you dont see something you think should be here, and contact Karl if you think you have info that would help out.

title: weezer [third demo tape - 1st 'official' demo tape]

promo/retail: promo (giveaway)
promo/retail:
label: n/a
id #: n/a
released: November, 1992 [+ 2 repressings]
format: cassette only
songs: no one else, The World Has Turned And Left Me Here, Say It Ain't So, Undone (The Sweater Song)
notes: pictured are the 3 different pressings of this demo, recorded and pressed up in november 1992. This was the bands 3rd actual demo tape, but the first they actually had multiple copies made of. The first pressing was blue, the second green, the third yellow. about 100 of each color were made and given out around L.A. to club owners, label people and the like. Extremely scarce. Note that a handful of "blues" also had "Surf Wax America" on the reverse side of the tape, unmarked. No more than 15 copies had this bonus treat, as it was considered an inferior recording and intended for friends only at the time. [note that the yellow one pictured is only a sticker label, and the green one pictured has extra blue sticker bits that were not on normal copies.]

title: weezer [advance promo]

promo/retail: promo
label: geffen
id #: dgcd-a-24629

format: cd and cassette
songs: my name is jonas. no one else. the world has turned and left me here. buddy holly. undone-the sweater song. surf wax america. say it ain't so. in the garage. holiday. only in dreams.
notes: one of the first advance cd's made by Geffen/DGC, as they had just started the practice of doing advance cd's as well as cassettes. These were sent out to retailers and some radio stations, to generate interest in advance of the albums release. There are likely no more than 500 of these. [Note that there are also promo cassettes of this as well].

LP release history - - identifying the various Blue Album vinyl LP issues.

1994 USA - on CD and Cassette. There is NO original USA vinyl.

1995 UK - Was never issued in shrinkwrap, is on Geffen [NOT DGC] records, ID: Gef 24629, barcode on upper left rear cover. Fine print on back cover says "...are the exclusive licencees for the UK", has the Hollywood Blvd. Fanclub Address. It has 5 songs on each side, copyright 1994. inner sleeve: plain white paper.

1995 UK - "feet variant" - *Exactly* as above EXCEPT the front cover photo shows the entire legs and feet of the band. This was POSSIBLY a somewhat later reissue, OR it came out at the same time as the 'correct' sleeve in early '95, OR it was issued EARLIER and is in fact an erroneous 'original state' before the corrected cover was put into production. Enough of these have surfaced that it is most likely NOT the latter, but it is possible. See below 1995 Japan edition for more.

1995 Japan - NOTE: it is possible that there is no original Japanese issue, and that the "feet variant" UK edition above was simply imported to Japan for sale there. This is likely due to the "Japanese" editions that have surfaced all listing the UK record company info, and several accounts that surfaced about people buying the blue LP in Japan in '95-'96, and it having the feet cover. In fact, every account of buying/mail ordering "original Japan LPs" from Japan have all led to the same exact UK "feet variant" as listed above. No original copy has ever surfaced with any distinctively Japanese record company markings or text.

2001 Japan reissue - Uses normal 'no feet' cover. Back cover has "for sale in Japan only - export prohibited", inner sleeve = plain white paper[?] 5 songs per side[?]. ID: gef 24629 (uw-001)

2002 Europe reissue - comes sealed in shrinkwrap with Universal sticker: "Vinyl Re-Release - mastered from original tapes". On lower back cover in fine print: "DAVID GEFFEN COMPANY, DGC; P & C 1994 Geffen Records; made in the E.U.", also barcode on bottom left corner of back cover. Inner sleeve is glossy paper and has the garage picture - it folds around front and back of inner sleeve. Back cover lists "Side A" and "Side B" [5 songs per side] in the songlist, which is set to the left, not centered. The fanclub address is updated to the Foster Road address, but it is misspelled. It says: "Faster" Road.

(unknown date) "Time Bomb" reissue - This is likely a UK "feet variant cover" reissue, but is associated with Japan as thats where some people have reported buying it. This edition has a "Time Bomb" sticker on the cover, and shows the guys feet on the cover photo. All markings and photos and inserts are identical to the 1995 "feet variant UK/Japan import edition listed above. It is likely that the "Time Bomb" sticker was simply affixed to denote it as part of a re-issue series, unfortunately it seems that some re-issues are identical to the UK/Japan "feet variant" edition and do NOT have the sticker - and are thus indistinguishable.

UNKNOWN REISSUE (Canadian?) 2002 "DGC 6/4" reissue: Unlike the others which are 5/5, Has 6 songs on side 1, 4 on side 2. Although this is a brand new reissue, it is made to look like its on DGC records - though there was *never* a DGC LP of this album originally. NO barcode on rear, songlist "centered" on back cover. white paper inner sleeve. Back cover has the Geffen 'ball' logo and reads "p&c; 1994 geffen records inc, an MCA company " at the bottom. ID: DGC-24629

notes: released as part of the Universal Deluxe Edition series. includes extensive expanded liner notes and photos. Note that the "Say It Ain't So" on Disc 2 is the same as was on roughly the first million copies pressed of the blue album, until the "radio" remix was instated as the "correct" SIAS from that point on. What was once the "radio remix" appears in the regular album sequence on Disc 1.

title: weezer s/t - a.k.a "the blue album" - German special promo

label: geffen - MCA
id #:
released: late 1994
format: cd only
songs: my name is jonas. no one else. the world has turned and left me here. buddy holly. undone-the sweater song. surf wax america. say it ain't so. in the garage. holiday. only in dreams.
notes: special German cd promo release, packed in a special fold out cardboard box, that translates roughly to "Have you heard this? NO? This band is Platinum in the USA! And theyre coming here on tour!", and lists the early 1995 German tour dates [and an explanation of what 'platinum' means] inside. This was intended for retailers and radio programmers. Very tough to find today.

title: [Dutch promo cassette]

label: geffen
id #:
released: early 1995
format: cassette only
songs: my name is jonas (album version), no one else (album version).
notes: Netherlands only promo, on cassette. Cassette contains the early 1995 Dutch tour dates, and is intended as a promotional item for radio and record stores. One of the rarer promo items.

Collectorsdiscography1-18.jpg
correct 4:10 disc
title: weezer - undone - the sweater song - US promo

label: dgc
id #:
released: 1994
format: cd
songs: undone-the sweater song (edit)
notes: This radio single was originally issued with an incorrect (too short) edit of the song. The album version is 4:58. the WRONG edit is 3:58, and has a shorter ending and half of the guitar solo missing. Soon after this error was discovered, a CORRECT edit was issued, totalling 4:10. The correct edit has the shortened ending but the guitar solo is completely intact.

There is further confusion because the back cover of ALL the singles lists 3:58, but the disc inside will either say 3:58 or 4:10. Beacause they found the problem after the fact, MOST copies out there have the wrong (3:58) edit, and ALL copies have the "3:58" on the back cover. The only way to be sure what you are looking at is to look at the disc, to see if it says "4:10" or not. Note that the "4:10's", while correct, are much harder to find than the 3:58's.

Unique Promo Protoype CD coming soon to this space courtesy Tony Voda.

Collectorsdiscography1-19.jpg title: weezer - undone - the sweater song [US cassette single]

label: geffen/dgc
id #:
released: 1994
format: cassette
songs: undone-the sweater song, holiday.
notes: US release, fairly easy to find at the time.

Collectorsdiscography1-20.jpg title: weezer - undone - the sweater song [US jukebox 7"]

label: geffen/dgc
id #:
released: 1994
format: 7" vinyl
songs: undone-the sweater song, holiday.
notes: US release, designed for jukebox stocking services, but also turned up in indie record shops as a commercial single for sale. No picture sleeve, came in the dark blue dgc sleeve with hole. B-side was Holiday. As hard to find today as the UK limited blue wax 7".

Collectorsdiscography1-21.jpg
title: weezer - undone - the sweater song

label: geffen
id #: GEFDM 21948 (australian version)
released: february 2, 1995
format: cd only
songs: undone-the sweater song, mykel & carli, susanne, sweet adeline (my evaline).
notes: the aussie version of this cd contains a minute long cover song, "my evaline". Though Mykel and Carli was attempted for the Blue Album, it was done over for this single, as well as the other 2 b-sides. Recorded at Ocean Way Studios between some early touring dates in summer of '94. My Evaline, a fun old barbershop song, was oddly mis-named on this, and still confuses fans seeking the track. Wasn't intended to be put on the single, but the spontaneous recording came out nice enough to add it.
this edition came in a cardboard sleeve - no plastic case.

Collectorsdiscography1-23.jpg
title: weezer - undone - the sweater song

label: geffen
id #: gfstd85 (uk version)
released: 1995
format: cd, cassette, 7" vinyl
songs: undone-the sweater song, mykel & carli, susanne, holiday.
notes: released in the UK w/ the first version of susanne, which along w/ mykel & carli were recorded during the blue album sessions. No My Evaline on this one, for no understandable reason. Maybe the English hate barbershop.

The vinyl version was issued on bright blue wax (limited to 2000 copies), very cool. UK cassette maxi-single and cassingle versions exist.

Collectorsdiscography1-24.jpg title: weezer - undone - [limited french promo 7"]

label: geffen
id #: GES 19305
released: early 1995
format: 7" vinyl
songs: undone-the sweater song, my name is Jonas.
notes: Special French promo release on 7" blue vinyl. Extremely limited hand numbered edition of 1200 copies. Intended for radio and the press. Given away in special contests on the radio. Amongst the rarer of weezer vinyl records. Note that a handful if un-numbered copies have turned up over the years, likely initially held back by record company employees. Whether all 1200 were numbered and these represent additional copies, or if the initial run of 1200 were not all given numbers is unknown.

label: geffen
id #: GED 23062

title: weezer - Buddy Holly - [USA radio promo]

label: DGC
id #: pro-cd-4687
released: fall 1994
format: cd
songs: Buddy Holly
notes: 1 track US promotional disc, sent to radio stations and retailers. Artwork later re-used on the Australian retail single. Front cover photo features RC and a childhood friend who Rivers desperately tried to track down for permission to use the shot. Never found her, and to this day she's never come forward. Back cover shot summer 1994 in West LA.

title: weezer - buddy holly (uk release)

label: geffen
id #: gfstd88 (europe GED21978 - w/out jamie)
released: september 7, 1995
format: CD, cassette, 7" vinyl
songs: buddy holly. my name is jonas-live. surf wax america-live. jamie.
notes: cover art features rivers and brother leaves. bsides recorded live on tour. jamie from dgc rarities vol. 1. There's the little troublemaker, along with his brother on the cover. The live tracks were recorded in Rochester, at the Horizontal Boogie Bar, during a bad icestorm. Of all the songs played in the show, these two songs were the first and last of the set, and happened to be the only 2 songs on the tape that came out good.
UK cassette single also exists [2 songs].
the uk 7" featured "jamie" as the bside. it also had great '50s era cover art on a standard black 45.

Collectorsdiscography1-31.jpg
title: weezer - buddy holly (Australia release)

label: geffen
id #: gefds 21968
released: fall 1995
format: cd only
songs: buddy holly. holiday.
notes: cover art features rivers and friend. songs are from s/t first release. An odd Australian release with no exclusive b-side. Cover photo features RC and a childhood friend who Rivers desperately tried to track down for permission to use the shot. Never found her, and to this day she's never come forward..Back cover shot summer 1994 in West LA.

label: geffen
id #: PRO-CD-4742
released: july 13, 1995
format: CD
songs: say it ain't so (remix).
notes: 1 track promo cd sent to radio stations. the say it ain't so remix does not mute the guitar feedback in the chorus, and is a more radio friendly mix with drum & vocal tweaks.

UK 10"
title: weezer - say it ain't so

label: MCA/geffen
id #: gfstm26439
released: july 13, 1995
format: CD, cassette, 10" vinyl
songs: say it ain't so (remix). no one else (acoustic)-live. jamie (acoustic)-live.
notes: acoustic live tracks recorded at cats paw studios session circa 1995. the say it ain't so remix does not mute the guitar feedback in the chorus, and is a more radio friendly mix with drum & vocal tweaks. Vinyl edition was a limited 10" (10,000 numbered copies). CD came with an "if its too loud..." sticker. Acoustic tracks from a live studio performance at 99X in Atlanta.
UK cassette single also exists [2 tracks].
Cover art is a negative reversal of some childhood art of Rivers's, a drawing of a young player scoring the winning soccer goal ("goll") as the father roots the lad on..
interesting note: UK retail singles for blue album stuff usually have the following text: "Original Versions of (songs) from the geffen lp, cassette, and compact disc weezer (gef/gec/ged 24629)". Only mention of the UK LPs existance.

Collectorsdiscography1-35.jpg
title: weezer - jonas [promo]

label: geffen
id #: dgcds 9518
released: late 1994
format: cd only
songs: my name is jonas (album version).
notes: Canadian only radio promo. There was apparently some confusion as to what the 3rd single would be, and several stations in the US and Canada played My Name Is Jonas as a single in spring 1995. This actually got to the stage in Canada where radio stations were serviced with this single. The plug was pulled early after "Say it aint so" was confirmed as the 3rd single, and this remains one of the hardest to find weezer promos.

Collectorsdiscography1-36.jpg
title: weezer - the black sessions [promo]

label: 1995 = ? / 2000's = Sangatte
id #: 1995 - ? / 2000's Sang 024 CD
released: 1995 / reissued in 2000's
format: cd only
songs: buddy holly, no one else, the world has turned, say it aint so, undone, surf wax america.
notes:French radio promo. The Black Sessions is a regular series on French radio. The band played the show live to air on 2/16/1995, this was made into a very limited set of promo only cd's made after the fact, for purposes of re-broadcast. This was not offered for sale and is very tough to find.
NOTE: A near exact re-issue of this disc was made in the 2000's, presumably by the same company. 99.9% of the copies that surface today are this newer pressing, which is much less rare than the 1995 original. There are a few distiguishing characteristics to tell them apart, mainly the back cover says "Les Archives Des Black Sessions" instead of "The Black Sessions"
