Grass Is Greener is the debut (and only) album by Neighborly. It was released on February 27, 2001 by Sun Sea Sky Productions. It was re-released on digital streaming services with seven additional bonus tracks and a written retrospective from Tom Ackerman in 2016.
Overview
Adam Orth (of Shufflepuck and Homie; long-time friend of Rivers Cuomo) plays bass on the album. He also provided back-up vocals, additional instrumentation on some songs, and engineered the album alongside Ackerman. Patrick Wilson plays drums and bass on the hidden/bonus track "Jarvik 7".
The final song on the album, "Spark and Flash", is written about the passing of Mykel and Carli Allan, who ran the fan club for Ackerman's previous band Skiploader. It was the first song released by Neighborly, originally included on the compilation album Hear You Me! A Tribute to Mykel and Carli in 1997.
