Green Day is an American punk rock band from East Bay, California which has been active since 1987.
Overview
Green Day was formed by lead guitarist and vocalist Billie Joe Armstrong, and bassist Mike Dirnt in 1987. For the majority of the band's existence, it has been a punk rock trio, consisting of Billie Joe Armstrong, (lead vocals, guitar), Mike Dirnt (bass guitar, backing vocals) and Tré Cool (drums, percussion).
Connections to Weezer
- Green Day and Weezer came to mainstream prominence in 1994 with regular MTV airplay in the post-Nirvana landscape.
- Both Weezer and Green Day contributed new songs, produced by Rob Cavallo, to the soundtrack of the film Angus: "You Gave Your Love to Me Softly" and "J.A.R.", respectively.
- Rivers Cuomo's Encyclopedia o' Pop contains mathematical analysis of Green Day songs.
- "El Scorcho" contains the lyric "I asked you to go to the Green Day concert, you said you never heard of them."

- In 2019, Green Day, alongside Weezer and Fall Out Boy announced a joint tour titled The Hella Mega Tour, set to take place in the later months of 2020, but due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis,
the tour was subsequently cancelled and rescheduled to later dates in 2021.
