Overview
The band formed in the early 1990s shortly after the demise of the military regime of Augusto Pinochet. They are known for songs charged with strong left-wing political ideas and anti-establishment commentary. The band achieved major success in Chile in the mid-1990s, and is well known in other Spanish-speaking countries.[1]
The title "Chow Chow Sen" is a transliteration of Cio Cio San, a lead character in Madama Butterfly, as well as a lyric in "El Scorcho". Musically, the song is close to a note-for-note performance of the Weezer song. The song's translated lyrics adapt Rivers Cuomo's words holistically and translate only a few lines directly. They make reference to other Pinkerton songs and explore the themes of "El Scorcho," which include self-doubt, lust, and romantic frustration.
The song was included on the album ¡Date Cuenta!, released in 2000. According to Karl Koch, the video for the song played on MTV.[2]
