Appearances

  • "Pinkslip" (7" vinyl, CD, and cassette single)

Overview

"Pinkslip" was released in 1995 on Boy's Life Records on CD, vinyl, and cassette. The vinyl version of the single was pressed on pink seven-inch vinyl, and included "17 Braids" as a b-side. The CD and cassette versions of the album included "17 Braids" as well as "I Love Christian Stone" as an additional track. The cassette version of the album was released without any art, and contained a yellow Supersport 2000 logo sticker, and were given out exclusively to members of the Weezer Fan Club.

Lyrics

In car culture, a "pink slip" is a nickname given to the certificate of title for a vehicle. In racing culture, "racing for pink slips" is a type of race that involves one betting their own vehicle against another doing the same. The person who wins the race gets to keep their pink slip (and therefore, their vehicle) and wins the losing opponent's pink slip (and therefore, the opponent's vehicle).

Artwork

The artwork contains multiple black and white pictures of Cherielynn Westrich and a child. Cherielynn briefly commented on the images in a 2001 interview:

The photos were just some snapshots of my friend Dakota and me. We were pretending the Bronco was a spaceship to the moon and his mom Shelley thought it was funny and took some pictures. When I saw them they made me laugh, so I made the cover art with them. Now people like to poke fun at me and my face.

Lyrics

There's something waiting in the way
I know there's nothing left to say
You might think it's okay, but it's worse

I won't waste my wheels on this here track
I won't spin my tires, you're coming back

I noticed you've got a funny face
I got a pink flamingo purse
You might to try to run, but there's no purse

I won't waste my wheels on this here track
I won't spin my tires, you're coming back
I won't waste my wheels on this here track
I won't spin my tires, you're coming back

(It's not my fault, but I can't drive
It's not my fault, but I can't drive
It's not my fault, but I can't drive
It's not my fault, but I can't drive
It's not my fault)

Say it's all over, and you got the pink slip, now
Well, if I'm so fucked then, why don't you just drown?

I'll prove it when I lift my skirt
It'll be the truth, so it might hurt
And maybe you won't go both ways
So you might want to run away

I won't waste my wheels on this here track
I won't spin my tires, you're coming back
I won't waste my wheels on this here track
I won't spin my tires, you're coming back

(It's not my fault, but I can't drive
It's not my fault, but I can't drive
It's not my fault, but I can't drive
It's not my fault, but I can't drive
It's not my fault, but I can't drive)
