Spirit of '73: Rock for Choice is a benefit compilation released in 1995.
Overview
The proceeds from sales of Spirit of '73 went to support Rock For Choice, a pro-choice organization. The theme of the album is female-fronted acts performing covers of female-fronted acts of yesteryear. To further drive home the theme, most of the songs covered here are from the late 60s/early 70s, a time in US history when abortion was a hot-button issue.
The album is interspersed with unnamed tracks featuring 70s-style radio or tv ads and spoken word pieces. That Dog makes an appearance with a reading of Maria Muldaur's 1973 chart-topper "Midnight At The Oasis".
