"Stupid Girl" is a song by American alternative metal band Cold and the lead single from their third major label album, Year of the Spider. It was co-written by Rivers Cuomo.

Overview

Cold first opened for Weezer in 2001, during the former's Midget Tour, until Cold quit the tour (reportedly due to heckling from Weezer fans).[1][2] In 2002, Rivers Cuomo began attending parties at the home of Cold frontman Scooter Ward.[3] Ward had developed a riff that he felt sounded like Weezer. At the suggestion of Geffen president Jordan Schur, Ward sent Cuomo the song. According to Ward, Cuomo wrote lyrics for the entire song,[4] though Ward wrote his own chorus.[3] Originally, Cuomo and Ward intended to trade vocals, but Cuomo ultimately decided to limit his vocal contribution to the pre-chorus.[4]

"Stupid Girl" was Cold's most successful single and only one to crack the Billboard Hot 100, staying on for 20 weeks and peaking at No. 87.

Music video

The music video for "Stupid Girl" was directed by Marc Webb, who later directed the music videos for the Weezer songs "Perfect Situation" and "(If You're Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To."

Lyrics

Wanna love ya'
Wanna bug ya'
Wanna squeeze ya'
Stupid girl
Wanna touch ya'
Wanna take ya'
Wanna shut ya'
Stupid girl

I can't take this
Born to break this

She's going away
What's wrong with my life today?
She's going away
What's wrong with my life today?
Stupid girl, stupid girl

I'm a loner
I'm a loser
I'm a winner
In my mind

I'm a bad one
I'm a good one
I'm a sick one
With a smile

I can't take this
Born to break this

She's going away
What's wrong with my life today?
She's going away
What's wrong with my life today?
Stupid girl, stupid girl

Stupid girl, stupid girl

She's going away
What's wrong with my life today?
She's going away
What's wrong with my life today?
Stupid girl, stupid girl
