Ozma and 8-bit Nostalgia When I got a chance to talk with the band Ozma, I was a bit apprehensive. I know how kids my age can be, but surprisingly, I found that they reassured my feelings that they are some of the coolest people around. I have to worry about having so much anxiety when I interview people, but gladly enough, they didn't seem to mind. Hailing from LA and just beginning their month long tour with Weezer and The Get Up Kids, the best chance to see Ozma would be at a live show, so go out and look for 'em! P-Sun: Alright, the first question I had, that actually comes from everyone that hears your music in my car or blasting out of my room is, "Where can we buy the music?" We know it is available online, which is great, but I was wondering if you had any plans with any major labels or talks on making a wide release of Rock and Roll part 3, or the Lps? Ryen: We'd like to have the Cd in stores but it hasn't worked out yet... We don't want to give our Cd away to a company. Jose: Getting distribution has been difficult but I think with this tour with such a band like Weezer will definitely help us get our Cd available. P-Sun: When Weezer was planning this tour with Yahoo, was it made clear that Ozma was going to be an opening band, or was there some confusion there? Daniel: We won in the online fan pole at the Weezer website. Jose: We were definitely getting hints from camp Weezer that we would be on it... But for the longest time... a formal confirmation wasn't made. Patrick: We were added on the tour after the fact. I think Yahoo was planning on just one opener... The Get Up Kids that won the online poll. But since we were second, and Weezer wanted us on, their people pushed us to Yahoo and they've agreed to add us as a third band. P-Sun: (Couldn't wait to ask) Any least favorite bands you guys want to share? Jose: 3 doors down BY FAR!! It's absolute crap. Patrick: Creed. Never got that whole phenomenon. Daniel: Creed sucks. P-Sun: I had one question I was personally dying to ask - favorite Nintendo games? Ryen: Tetris, Supermario. [sic] Daniel: Super Sprint - Dopest racing game. And of course Back to the Future for NES 8-bit. Patrick: Contra... Hell yeah. Up up down down left right left right b a b a select start. Jose: People should play Dr. Mario. It's Tetris with a twist. P-Sun: So was taking the time off school a big deal for any of you? Star: WHAT??! [We] will be going on a national tour with Weezer?! This is so unreal! Of course you have to take the opportunity to do it - school will always be around, even if one should decide to go back to school in their 40's, 50's, 60's, etc. |
