"Thought of Sound" is a song by the Rentals. It is the fifth track on Chapter One: The Story of a Thousand Seasons Past, the first mini-album of the Songs About Time multimedia project. It was later reworked for the band's third proper studio album, Lost in Alphaville.

- PV Digest #2 - Summer 2014 (2014)
Overview
"Thought of Sound" originally appeared as part of the Songs About Time project. The song's structure was altered when it was revisited for Lost in Alphaville. The song's bridge ("You are free...") became the song's chorus, and a verse was excised (possibly due to containing the words "Songs about time"). The song appeared on Polyvinyl Record's compilation PV Digest #2 - Summer 2014 [1].

Lyrics
There's nothing more beautiful right now than the thought of sound
It wakes you up in the morning, walks you home at night when no one's around
It keeps you company when no one can figure you out
The sound of pure emotion lifts up from the ground
You are free from the loneliness, you are free as the sun sets
You are free from the hopelessness, you are free like a thought of sound
There's nothing, really nothing more beautiful than the thought of sound
It wakes you in the morning, walks you home at night when no one's around
It keeps you company when no one can figure you out
The sound of pure emotion lifts up from the ground
You are free from the loneliness, you are free as the sun sets
You are free from the hopelessness, you are free like a thought of sound
All that is proud, all that is raised up, all that is wise, all that is curious
All that is broken, all that is kind, all this was born in your delicate eyes ...you are free
You are free from the loneliness, you are free as the sun sets
You are free from the hopelessness, you are free like a thought of sound
Free from the loneliness, you are free as the sun sets, you are free from the hopelessness
You are free like a thought of sound
omitted Songs About Time verse
The terror abandoned, your midnight companion
Holding your hand, never leaving you stranded
Songs about time, songs about dancing
Songs about love, never advancing
