Overview
"Weekend Woman" is a reworking of the Green Album-era Rivers Cuomo demo "Burning Sun". A song called "Weekend Girl" was demoed for Everything Will Be Alright in the End but, ultimately, went unused. It is believed that Ric Ocasek, who produced both The Green Album and EWBAITE, asked Cuomo to revisit some of his Green-era compositions for inclusion on EWBAITE, and that "Burning Sun" was one such song (the song "Lonely Girl" from EWBAITE is also speculated to have originated during the Green sessions, possibly under the title "Homely"). In an October 2017 interview with NPR, Cuomo said that the lyrics are not about anyone specific; they are lines from different sources but were connected in a way that suggests a story about a single relationship. Rivers also stated that he was trying to not use the word "girl" as much in his songs (the word does not appear at all on Pacific Daydream). This is, presumably, the reason for the change from "Weekend Girl" to "Weekend Woman." The bridge of this song was taken from "Beautiful Lies" which was later included on Alone XII: The White Year. A demo for "Weekend Girl" was added to Alone XI: The EWBAITE Years on November 27, 2020.
