"Are We Good?"
Song by Weezer
Writer(s) Rivers Cuomo, Butch Walker (?)
Producer(s) Ric Ocasek
Status Unreleased

"Are We Good?" is an unreleased Weezer demo.

Overview

The title "Are We Good" was first observed written in Ric Ocasek's notebook in a video posted to Rivers Cuomo's Instagram account in 2014 during the making of Everything Will Be Alright in the End [1]. The song may have been considered for release as a single until it was dropped from the album. Though the song is not in circulation, it is known to have been played at listening parties with fans.

In May of 2020, the song "Clock Work" by Asian Kung-Fu Generation (co-written by Cuomo with Butch Walker and Asian Kung-Fu Generation frontman Masafumi Gotoh) was re-added to the ASCAP/BMI song database as "ARE WE GOOD / CLOCK WORK", suggesting that "Clock Work" is a reworking of the unreleased Weezer demo "Are We Good?".

I'd like to have this conversation
But we're no good with words
The only stories that we tell
We've already heard
For 16 years I did not hear your voice or see your face
And though they tried so many times
They could not take your place
We tried to make amends
Is this our story's end?

Are we good?
Are we understood
Are we saying all the things that we know we should
Are we good?
Or are we giving up
Before the time slips away I want to know
Are we good?

You call me a little loser
And I thought that you were right
I thought that i wasn't good enough
I doubted my whole life
So i wrote a song about you
And the kids all sang along
They took my side against you
Yeah, maybe that was wrong

I will take you in
Where do we begin?

Are we good?
Are we understood
Are we saying all the things that we know we should
Are we good?
Or are we giving up
Before the time slips away I want to know
Are we good?
