"I Do" is a song by Weezer. It appeared as the eleventh track on some international releases of The Green Album and a B-side on some single releases of "Hash Pipe".
Appearances
- "Hash Pipe" (US Retail CD single/US Retail 7" (Black Vinyl))
- "Hash Pipe" (International retail CD single)
- The Green Album (UK and Japan editions)
Overview
"I Do" was written by Rivers Cuomo while The Green Album was already in production,[1][2] but did not appear on the final album. It was released as a B-side and as a bonus track on some international editions of Green, and was performed live at every show during the Yahoo! Outloud Tour, as the set's opening number.
The Catalog O' Riffs contains two separate entries for #276, "I Do" and "Let It Ride". It is unknown if the two songs share the same structure or if this is a numbering error.
"I Do" is sometimes derided for its similarity to the 1989 Billy Joel song "Leningrad". Addressing the similarity in 2002, Cuomo simply remarked "he's one of my all time favs."[3] Incidentally, Joel would receive a writing credit on the Van Weezer track "The Beginning of the End," twenty years later, due to its similarities to the Billy Joel song "The Longest Time."
Personnel
- Rivers Cuomo – Wurlitzer piano, lead vocals
- Brian Bell – lead guitar [citation needed]
- Mikey Welsh - backing vocals [citation needed]
Lyrics
All the times you came
I should've ran away
You told me that you'd always love me
You told me that you'd always love me
And the games you played
Were meant to lead me on
You told me that you'd always love me
You told me that you'd always love me
Always, oooh always
I do
You told me that you'd always love me
You told me that you'd always love me
Never more again
Will I believe the sun
