Saturday Night is an unreleased Weezer song that was first demoed for Maladroit.

Overview

"Saturday Night" was first recorded by Rivers Cuomo on March 7, 2001. It was later demoed by the entire band several times. Four versions have been released to fans through Weezer.com. The first version is notably high-spirited and goofy, and is the only one to include former Weezer bassist Mikey Welsh. It also features significantly different production, falsetto backing vocals, and silly improvised banter in its opening seconds. This first version was recorded on May 27, 2001 at Monster Island Studios in Washington D.C, as a part of the "DC demos." The three versions that followed it were recorded in December, as a part of the official Maladroit recording process. They were performed with a production and attitude much more similar to that of Maladroit, with changes to the solo and lyrics. Scott Shriner plays bass and sings on these three demos.

The song was brought back one more time during the recording of the planned but later scrapped fifth studio album in June/July 2002. The song bears some similarities to the song おかしいやつ, from the eponymous debut album by Scott & Rivers, released in 2013.

Lyrics

The lyrics of the Maladroit demo versions feature an omission of the "Take a new stance" stanza. All lyrics that only appear in the Maladroit demo versions are italicized.

Saturday Night
Oh how I love that song (Now that you loved it)
Proves to me that I'm wrong
The night away

Give to me, girl,
All of the love that I need
Ooh when I'm hungry I feed
The night away (Now that you loved it, wrong)

Dreams will never happen to you (They'll never happen to you)
Once you feel the freedom is true
I'll be with you

Take a new stance
Boogie in nights like in France
Boogie in nights like in France
The night away (that's right)

Plantin' your seed (Now that you loved it)
Deep in the heart of the Earth
Tryin' to kneel and give birth Fall to my knees and give birth
The night away (Now that you loved it, wrong)

Watchin' you go
Never again will weep (Now that you loved it)
Now that I see that you keep
The night away (Now that you loved it, wrong)

Dreams will never happen to you (They'll never happen to you)
Once you feel the freedom is true
I'll be
Holdin' on
Holdin' on
So in love with yourself (So in love)
With you
With you

Dreams will never happen to you (They'll never happen to you)
Once you feel the freedom is true
I'll be
Holdin' on
Holdin' on
So in love with yourself (So in love)
With you
With you
With you (ah)
Oh with you
With you
