"Show Me Who You Are" is an unreleased Weezer song originally recorded as a demo for the planned album that would eventually become Make Believe. It is a re-working of a previous demo, "Prodigy Lover". It was subsequently reworked again into the song "Happy Robot" before ultimately becoming the track "I'm a Robot" from the compilation album Death to False Metal.

Overview

The song was demoed several times by the band from 2002 until 2005, evolving several times. "Show Me Who You Are" was recorded during the band's second attempt at making Make Believe, at Grandmaster Recorders in Los Angeles, CA. It was one of twelve songs that Rivers Cuomo asked to band to concentrate on during this period. Cuomo catalogued these demos under the title Unchained Melody.

Lyrics

Unchained Melody version

Mama loved me
In her way
She had nothing
Much to say

"I am hungry"
"Where's my dinner?"
"Guess I'll watch the TV"

You could make me happy
If you ever want to
All you have to do is
Show me who you are

Now I'm grown up
Wise and strong
Nothing hurts me
Very long

When the end comes
To release me
Will I have someone near?

You could make me happy
If you ever want to
All you have to do is
Show me who you are

I don't want to blame anybody
For all of the pain I am feeling
It's just that I wish that I had somebody
That could give me some healing

You could make me happy
If you ever want to
All you have to do is
Show me who you are
