"Don't Bring Me Down" was written by Rivers Cuomo in 2001, and was first demoed on an Olympus handheld digital recorder.[1][2] Weezer recorded a demo of the song at Sage and Sound Recording in Los Angeles on August 29, 2001, in early contention for the album that would eventually become Maladroit, though the song was not among those distributed to fans online. Cuomo's original demo was released in 2020 as part of the digital demo compilation Alone VIII: The Maladroit Years.
