Overview
"Any Friend of Diane's" is the name of the 6th episode of the 1st season of the TV show "Cheers."
In an October 2017 interview for marketplace.org, Rivers Cuomo indicated that the lyric about a "20 dollar tip" was based on a real event: "I delivered pizza for Domino's and on New Year's Eve I got a $20 tip. I've never forgotten that, it's just made my life." In an NPR interview from the same month, Cuomo said that the song is not about a single woman, but rather many women who were very supportive and helpful during the early stages of his musical career. He gave the example of his former boss at Domino's Pizza who "painted [his] band's logo on the back of [his] jean jacket."
