Appearances

Overview

Actor Michael Cera plays mandolin and provides backing vocals on this track. In an interview, Cuomo stated that the songwriting collaboration was the result of (co-writer) Rick Nowels playing the song's chord progression, with Cuomo following up with the song's melody and lyrics.

To date, "Hang On" has been performed live only twice, during the last two tour dates on Weezer's 2010 Tour.

A new radio mix of the song was recorded in 2010 and debuted in early February of 2011, omitting the album version's mandolin instrumentation in favor of electric guitar. This mix features a guitar solo and a lyric not present in the original song ("We'll be so happy we waited, hang on"). Footage of the band was filmed in front of a green screen for a music video that was never officially released, though footage has been released on YouTube in various states [1] [2] [3].

Weezer performed the song in the episode "You, Me, and Weezer" of the TV series The Hard Times of RJ Berger.

Lyrics

Someday
I'll be coming for you
You'll know
What I'm wanting to do
I'll know the words to say
To draw you in so close to me

Over and over
We swore it was over
But just like wild clover
Love grows at light speed

Hang on 'till I see you again
I'm going to be more than a friend
You know that this isn't the end
So hang on (hang on, hang on, hang on)

This was
Just a very first start
There's more
That I hold in my heart
I'm waiting for a chance
To show you how I long to be

Over and over
We swore it was over
But just like I'm solar
You warm up to me

Hang on 'till I see you again
I'm going to be more than a friend
You know that this isn't the end
So hang on (hang on, hang on, hang on)

Hang on 'till the break of the day
We'll cast all our troubles away
You know that this isn't the end
So hang on (hang on, hang on, hang on)

Sweet thing
As long as I'm breathing
And my heart is still beating
I'm gonna be coming for you

Hang on, hang on, hang on
Hang on, hang on, hang on

Hang on 'till I see you again
I'm going to be more than a friend
You know that this isn't the end
So hang on (hang on, hang on, hang on)

Hang on 'till the break of the day
We'll cast all our troubles away
You know that this isn't the end
So hang on (hang on, hang on, hang on)
