Overview
"QB Blitz" is about another person in my creative life, a collaborator. That one’s ultimately about disappointment with decisions that had been made, and that feeling of, "Why did I trust other people when I should have just been going with my own creative instincts?" I just need to get back in touch with my instincts and go for it, rather than relying on the advice of the experts.

"QB Blitz" was inspired by the lack of commercial breakthrough with Weezer's previous album (the self-titled White Album) following the band's signing to Crush Management[2] (ironically, Pacific Daydream would perform even more poorly than The White Album, having the lowest peak position on the Billboard 200 of the band's career, at the time of release[3]). Cuomo said of the song's title, "The phrase...just came to me while writing stream of consciousness. Maybe it means I have to resort to drastic measures after being frustrated with more conservative play." "QB Blitz" references the ice planet of Hoth from the Star Wars film The Empire Strikes Back. According to Cuomo, the "algebra" lyric was inspired by his inability to get his wife to take a Khan Academy algebra course with him.[4] Cuomo's interest in algebra later led to his interest in computer programming.
Demos of "QB Blitz" were released as part of the digital demo compilation Alone XIII: The Pacific Daydream Years in 2021.
