"Broken Arrows" (formerly "Love Canopy") is a song written by Rivers Cuomo and demoed by Weezer during the Maladroit recording sessions.

Appearances

Overview

Rivers Cuomo recorded multiple low-fidelity demos onto an Olympus handheld digital recorder[1][2] likely in the summer of 2001.[3] One of these demos was distributed by Cuomo to fans in the early 2000s. An even earlier demo was released as part of the digital compilation Alone VIII: The Maladroit Years in 2020.

Weezer recorded "Broken Arrows" in early January of 2002 at Cello Studios during the sessions for the band's album, Maladroit. Two recordings from these sessions were released on weezer.com for the purposes of receiving feedback from fans. Ultimately, the song was not used for Maladroit.

Lyrics

January 4, 2002

Every hour, every day
Since you've gone far away
It's a love canopy of dreams
And broken arrows
And broken arrows

Baby don't you know, know
Get in the car just before we go
We go, we go

Every hour, every day
Love, it seems far away
It's the last chance to be with you
And hear your heartache
And hear your heartache

And, baby, don't you know, know
Get in the car just before we go
We go, we go

And after all that we couldn't say, oh no
We'd turn to you and said "yesterday," oh no
He had no right, no
We stood and fought
I need love
I need love

And, baby, don't you know, know
Get in the car just before we go
We go, we go

Every hour every day
Every hour every day
