Memories is the first track and lead single of Weezer's eighth studio album Hurley.
Appearances
- Hurley (2010)
Overview
Weezer guitarist Brian Bell confirmed that "Memories" would be Hurley's first single for in an interview during which the song made its radio debut on a station in California. Lead singer Rivers Cuomo sings aggressively and energetically throughout the song, and even allows his voice to crack on the lyric "cuz I'm freakin bored!"
"Memories" was to be included in the 2010 "Jackass 3D" movie. Photos from a Weezer/Jackass video shoot surfaced on Twitter as well as a remix of the song featuring the Jackass cast on "gang" backing vocals, which was accidentally released by Epitaph.
The song has origins as far back as at least 2006, and an early version or demo (by Rivers or by Weezer is uncertain) with alternate lyrics is said to exist. The song may date back as far as 2003 according to the Weezer recording history, although it may be two different songs with the same name. A demo for the song later appeared on Alone X: The Red-Raditude-Hurley Years under the name "Memories (2008 edit) 2".
Reception
The song received a decidedly negative review from Teenage Victory Songs, representing the reception that the band's more diehard fan base has shown the song. TVS included the song in "The Very Worst."
Music video
The music video for "Memories" features the cast of Jackass and was directed by Jackass director Jeff Tremaine.

Lyrics
Pissing in plastic cups before we went on stage
Playing hacky sack back when Audioslave was still Rage
Watching all the freaky Dutch kids vomit then have sex
Listening to techno music on the bus while we earned our checks
Memories make me want to go back there, back there
All the memories make me want to go back there, back there
All the memories, how can we make it back there, back there
I want to be there again
Messing with the journalists and tellin’ stupid lies
They had a feeling that something was up because of the look in our eyes
In fact, we didn’t know what we were doing half of the time
We were so sure of ourselves and sure of our way through life
Memories make me want to go back there, back there
All the memories make me want to go back there, back there
All the memories, how can we make it back there, back there
I want to be there again
Now I got so many people that I got to look out for
I never know when I’ll be called away to buy some food at the store
I can hear them babies crying and the lawn needs to be mowed
I gotta get my groove on, ‘cause I’m freaking bored!
Memories make me want to go back there, back there
All the memories make me want to go back there, back there
All the memories, how can we make it back there, back there
I want to be there again
