Overview

BH: How did the song "My Head Is in the Sun" with Rivers come about?

Matt: I was living at his house in Boston, and he was out here trying out people to replace me. He came back for a weekend. We sat around and sang songs, played his songs and my songs, other people's songs. I had been stuck on that song for a really long time. I just couldn't figure out how to finish it up, and it had taken me like three years to write that song. It's one of the only ones that took a long time, and I had basically just given up on it all together. So I played it for him and he sort of worked on it with me. It was cool and relaxed. It was the first time we got to truly collaborate on something.

Buddyhead interview, 1999[1]

"My Head is in the Sun" is, notably, the only officially-released track co-written by Matt Sharp with Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo. Sharp spent several years working through different iterations of the song before finishing it while living at Cuomo's house in Boston. It was the final song recorded for the album.[2] The song was covered by the band Aberfeldy for the compilation Friends of P - Tribute to the Rentals

Lyrics

Silence in the air
At the end of the affair
End of the run
(It's just begun)
Silence in the air
I don't know if I even care
About anyone
(You look overrun)
My head is in the sun

Seven more minutes to hide away
Far from everyone
Seven more minutes slide away
Somewhere in the sun
(Somewhere far from everyone)
My head is in the sun
(Somewhere far from everyone)
My head is in the sun

Silence in the air
At the end of the affair
End of the run
(They have not won)
Silence in the air
I don't know if I even care
About anyone
(You look overrun)
My head is in the sun

Seven more minutes to hide away
Far from everyone
Seven more minutes slide away
Somewhere in the sun
(Somewhere far from everyone)
My head is in the sun
(Somewhere far from everyone)
My head is in the sun

I heard you singing

Seven more minutes to hide away
Far from everyone
Seven more minutes slide away
Somewhere in the sun
(Somewhere far from everyone)
My head is in the sun
(Somewhere far from everyone)
My head is in the sun
(Somewhere far from everyone)
My head is in the sun
(My head is in the sun)
Far from everyone
