Overview
The intro is reworked from the Rivers Cuomo demo "Narcissus Blooming," originally demoed as part of Ecce Homo, an early draft of what would eventually become the album Everything Will Be Alright in the End. According to Cuomo, "The Garden of Eden" was intended to follow "Angels on Vacation" in the track list, and was described by Cuomo as a follow-up to that song, in which the angels are reincarnated as Adam and Eve.[1] At one point during the album's production, Cuomo considered including a section of spoken dialogue (that was, ultimately, not included):[1][2]
Adam: I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore.
Eve: Woah....Where do you think we are?
Adam: I don't know....better get a fig leaf.
Eve: Ok.....giggles
"The Garden of Eden" was demoed under numerous potential titles throughout 2021. Several of these demos were leaked online in December of 2022.
