Overview
The lyrics for "The Underdogs" were written by Rivers Cuomo using music composed by Japanese songwriter Kazuhiro Hara, whose song "Meri Kuri" had previously been covered by Cuomo for use as a Japanese bonus track on Weezer's self-titled Red Album. An earlier, slightly different mix of the song was leaked online in 2017. Early instrumental mixes of the song by Hara were mistakenly distributed as part of the digital demo compilation Alone XI: The EWBAITE Years in November of 2020, before they were subsequently removed.
