"Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town" is a Christmas song written by J. Fred Coots and Haven Gillespie and first recorded by banjoist Harry Reser and his orchestra in 1934.[1] The song has been covered by hundreds of artists in the years since, including the Supremes, Frank Sinatra, Mariah Carey, and the Jackson 5. Weezer recorded a cover of the song for the 2023 Netflix film Family Switch, directed by McG and released on November 30, 2023.

Family Switch director McG began his career in the music industry, producing albums for bands like Sugar Ray and directing music videos for bands like Sublime, Smash Mouth, and the Offspring. "I'm obsessed with Weezer," McG said in an interview[2][3] "I've been chasing Rivers Cuomo around since '93. That Blue Record really knocked me out, and ever since "The Sweater Song" I’ve been blown away by his craftsmanship and his approach to the world, and he didn’t disappoint when we finally starting working together." McG recalled that the band jammed with actor Ed Helms (himself an instrumentalist) between takes during the filming of the movie, covering songs such as "The Rover" by Led Zeppelin.

Rivers Cuomo, Brian Bell, Scott Shriner, and Patrick Wilson are credited in the film (as "Lake," "Dave," "Scott," and "Patrick," respectively). In the film, the members of Weezer play bandmates of the character Bill (Ed Helms) in the fictional band Dad or Alive. The character's story arc climaxes with a performance of "Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town" performed by the band with Helms on lead vocals.
