"I'm Just Being Honest" (or "本音なんだ。" Hon'nena nda) is the sixth track from The Black Album. It was first released in 2017 as the ninth track from Nimaime (ニマイメ) by Scott & Rivers. The Weezer version of "I'm Just Being Honest" was leaked online on February 26, 2019 prior to its official release on March 1.

Overview
The Japanese version of the song heard on the Scott & Rivers album was released in 2017, with the English version by Weezer following in 2019. Both versions contain virtually the same lyrical content. The song was a collaboration between Rivers Cuomo and musician/producer David Hodges. Scott Murphy also receives a writing credit on the Japanese version, with songwriter Ammar Malik receiving a credit on the English version.
Rivers Cuomo is not known to be of Irish descent, and the lyric “Maybe it’s because I’m Irish” is likely an allusion to a line from the 1994 film The Shawshank Redemption, in which the (obviously African-American) character Red utters the same phrase. The song "Too Many Thoughts in My Head" (from the same album) also features a line from the film ("Boy found brains he never knew he had"). Cuomo utilized Python scripting[1] on The Black Album to generate lyrics from film scripts.
A "clean" version of "I'm Just Being Honest" was included in a promotional "island" inside the online multiplayer video game Fortnite.[2] This version censors the word "shit."
Though "I'm Just Being Honest" has never been performed as a band, Cuomo played a solo, acoustic rendition of the song at a concert in Canandaigua, New York in 2023.
