Overview
"The Odd Couple" was originally demoed by Rivers Cuomo in 2006, according to a spreadsheet Cuomo assembled in 2008 of his "4 and 5-star demos." In the song's lyrics, Cuomo likens his relationship to a partner (likely his wife) to that of The Odd Couple (a 1965 play that spawned myriad derivations in the decades since). Cuomo recorded a demo in 2007 for Deliverance at Hand!, a CD-R compilation assembled by Cuomo for the other members of Weezer, in consideration for the band's planned sixth album.
"The Odd Couple" was recorded with producer Rick Rubin during the production of The Red Album, though it did not, ultimately, make the cut. The song was revisited in 2010 for the compilation album Death to False Metal, where it received additional overdubs with producer Shawn Everett.[1] Cuomo's Deliverance at Hand! demo was released in 2020 as part of the digital compilation Alone X: The Red-Raditude-Hurley Years.

Death to False Metal liner notes
I got a PC, you got a Mac
I'm givin' you flak for your AirPort
I read books and you watch TV
You wanna be free to relax more
But when I think about the other people I could see
Nobody else out there could ever make me happy
I wonder how we came to be
The Odd Couple is what we are in reality
But we are so happy in everything we do
The Odd Couple is what they're saying of you and me
But we know the feeling that we share is true
Sometimes I want to strangle your neck
Or write you a check to get goin'
There's only so much more I can take
I made a mistake without knowin'
But when I think about the way your little heart beats
When I am holdin' you and you are holdin' onto me
I wonder how we came to be
The Odd Couple is what we are in reality
But we are so happy in everything we do
The Odd Couple is what they're saying of you and me
But we know the feeling that we share is true
I hope you know that I don't mean you disrespect
I'm just pointing out all of the facts I double-checked
Everyone can see that we ain't two peas in a pod
But maybe that's our chemistry that takes us to the top
I think it's workin' baby, that's the point I'm tryin' to make
If I said something else to you then I would be a fake
I wonder how we came to be
I wonder how we came to be
I wonder how we came to be
The Odd Couple is what we are in reality
But we are so happy in everything we do
The Odd Couple is what they're saying of you and me
But we know the feeling that we share is true
The Odd Couple
The Odd Couple
The Odd Couple
The Odd Couple
Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
