RWA: What's your take on this whole "Weezer" thing?

Mikey: It totally sucks and is a big bummer.

—1998 interview with Mikey Welsh

hiii!!! hellooooo!!!

You can call me Meri! I'm a guitarist, singer, and Weezer fan. I got into Weezer in autumn 2022, after my mom starting singing In the Garage whilst we were driving to a garage sale.

My projects

I'm currently going through the entire list of concerts to make sure they all use the more sophisticated format that the recent pages do. This'll probably take a while to complete, but it's kinda fun! Currently, I'm on November 2010, the start of the Memories Tour. Remember when Weezer used to play B-sides?

My Weezer collection!

I don't usually get albums on more than one format, unless it's one of my absolute favorites (and I can get the vinyl for a half-decent price).

My third Weezer concert... and goddamn was it a great time! We had to hit the road pretty much immediately after my brother came home from school if we wanted to have enough time to grab something to eat, but it was totally worth it in the end. This was probably the greatest show I've ever been to, and I won't be forgetting it anytime soon.

First at bat was Dinosaur Jr., and I had no idea what to expect. I'd never listened to them before, but my god was that the wrong choice. These guys brought the rock like few bands can dream of, and their songs were simply great. I'll be sure to check out their album sometime soon!! My favorite song of their set was Feel the Pain.

Next up was The Flaming Lips. My dad has been a huge fan of them for as long as I can remember, but I wasn't convinced by the few songs I'd heard of theirs. I definitely came around on them a bit after seeing the show they put on, though! They had like 3 different blow-up props, he swung around a big mace, they threw out a bunch of balloons that spelled out "FUCK YEAH PHILADELPHIA", it was hilarious. And also a couple of their songs were pretty good I guess. My favorite song of their set was Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots Part One. dudes think they ozma

Now, I don't care how many of you say Weezer is washed-up live and not worth seeing anymore. I was completely blown away. Sure, there were some issues. Brian's Les Paul sounded oddly quiet, they used a sample for the intro to Jonas, and Troublemaker absolutely does not work just slapped in the middle of Dope Nose like that. But as far as complaints go, that's like 3 songs out of 26 all-timers. The set was just outstanding, honestly. I was already excited to get to hear TWHTALMH and Holiday, but Getchoo, Burndt Jamb, and freakin Across the Sea were great surprises that got me even more hyped for the main event. It was around the Pinkerton Asteroid Belt that I noticed someone in the crowd holding up the "HI" balloons from the Flaming Lips's little stunt, I thought that was funny. Anyway, Weezer absolutely killed it on every last song, Pat especially bringing his A-game. (Well, as close to his A-game as he's been since SS2K, but I'd consider that his S-game or something.) I liked how for the interludes in Undone, Brian improvised some banter about stuff to do in Philly, like he mentioned swinging around to a specific restaurant to grab a cheesesteak. It was a bit odd he was the only one talking, but that's leagues better than the backing track they've played to in the past. And of course, speaking of stage banter, the freakin theatrics in this show were just great. It was a bit absurd, but then again, it's Weezer we're talking about. I have a feeling I'll be quoting "it's dying.... we need the blue album to bring it back!!" for a while. I also very much appreciated the revival and subsequent murder of Bokkus. Now all we need is some justice for Hoblie the Pineapple Tree Boy...

In the end, though I could hear everyone around me praying for an encore, the Voyage to the Blue Planet was a stellar show on a level that I hope Weezer can match on their next tours. -- Meri :3
