"Back Away" is a song by the Special Goodness. It was played live in June 2000.

Overview

The song can be traced to early 1999; in 2024, Patrick Wilson recalled that he may have rehearsed it in Pat Finn's basement during the period in 1999 where the two lived nearby in Oregon. It is not known to have been demoed or recorded by the band at any point. A soundboard recording of the song from a concert in mid-June 2000 at Spaceland has circulated online.

The song remained obscure until it was posted to the Weezerpedia Discord Server in June 2024. Its title having been lost to time, Karl Koch offered the provisional title "The Bottom Is the Top". In a private discussion with Koch, Wilson, who too could not recall the official title, called it "a song that didn't work". The official title was rediscovered shortly after, as it is stated outright in the audio of the June 2000 bootleg.[1]

Lyrics

Back away from the breast implant, if you know what's good
Lots of people don't care for you even though they should
I want you to feel good about everything you've got
They want you to feel good about bein' something you're not

I live inside a world where the bottom is the top
I don't know how it started and I don't know where it stops

Back away from the nightly news and you're doing well
All they want is for you to view everything they sell
I want you to feel good about everything you've got
They want you to feel good about bein' something you're not

I live inside a world where the bottom is the top
I don't know how it started and I don't know where it stops

I live inside a world where the bottom is the top
I don't know how it started and I don't know where it stops
I live inside a world where the bottom is the top
I don't know how it started and I don't know where it stops
