Overview
"I Can Love" is first known to have been recorded at the band's rented office space on September 7, 2003.[1] It was attempted again acoustically on October 7. Several electric demos were attempted with Rick Rubin at Swing House Rehearsals on November 7. By the time the band began recording at Cello Studios, the song was no longer being rehearsed.
The song was first released to fans as an iTunes bonus track (along with "It's Easy" from the same sessions) to those that pre-ordered The Red Album on June 3, 2008. This version is one of the acoustic office recordings. Due to an oversight, on November 22, 2020, an electric, full-band recording (dated November 7, 2003) was briefly made available as a part of the digital compilation Alone IX: The Make Believe Years before being removed the following day.

Lyrics
I didn't hope for much
I was used to how things were
Even though I was not sure
You'd say I was throwing it all away
And I never learned to heal
I can't believe what I see
After all this time, it is meant to be
Help me believe, believe, believe
That I can love, I can love, I can love
I can love, I can love, I can love
I can love
I guess it goes to show
That you never should give up
Even when you're out of luck
You might find an angel in your sight
Who turns everything around
I can't believe what I see
After all this time, it is meant to be
Help me believe, believe, believe
That I can love, I can love, I can love
I can love, I can love, I can love
I can love
