Overview

"Message Board" was written by Rivers Cuomo, likely in late 2001 (or possibly early 2002). The songs lyrics suggest that it was written in response to fan criticism on internet bulletin boards of the time, specifically those criticizing Weezer's post-Pinkerton output. Cuomo's demo, recorded to an Olympus handheld digital recorder,[1][2] was released in 2020 as part of the demo compilation Alone VIII: The Maladroit Years.

Lyrics

Woo-woo, message board
Is this what you waited for?
All those lonely nights
Waiting for the songs I write

You'll never be as satisfied
As on the day I finally die

I'll give what you want
Even though it makes me gag
Quirky, personal
Songs sung by an emo fag

You'll never be as satisfied
As on the day I finally die
