Appearances

Overview

Rivers Cuomo co-wrote "Put Me Back Together" with Tyson Ritter and Nick Wheeler of All-American Rejects.

According to Ritter and Wheeler, who were interviewed by MTV, "We just did a track with Rivers [Cuomo] for the new Weezer record! When he asked us to do it, I fell on my knees and cried. We were playing this guy's songs when we were 13 at parties. A few weeks ago, we [went] to his house — so that was cool — sat in a room with three guitars, and just kinda, Ty had a little idea, and we kind of riffed on it. And then we never heard anything. So we're shooting our video for our next single, 'I Wanna,' yesterday, and our A&R guy comes to the shoot with a CD of the finished version, and I was like, 'Oh, so that happened!' And so I shot [Cuomo] an e-mail saying what a privilege it was working with him, and this sounds great, you guys did a great job with the song, you know, stuff like that, and he replied back, and at the end, it said, 'Definitely miss your guitar playing on the final version.' So, I saved that e-mail, and it's probably gonna stay in my star file for quite a while.

Two alternate mixes, by producers Serban Ghenea and Rich Costey, respectively, were released as part of the Weezer Raditude Club: iTunes pass.

All-American Rejects performed the song live on on May 1, 2014.

Band Commentary

Rivers: "Put Me Back Together", that was really fun. I wrote with Tyson and Nick from All American Rejects. They just came over to my house, we just started jamming. It's cool 'cause it sounds actually like a classic Weezer song. Turns out that those guys, when they were starting their band, they were big Weezer fans, so they brought some of that influence back to me. [1]

Live performances

Despite releasing in 2009, the song was not performed live until 2012. All American Rejects has also covered the song in concert on a number of occasions [2].

Lyrics

When I walk down the street
I be trippin' on my feet
And my clothes, they don't match
And my blue jeans need a patch
It's cold outside
Is there someone there tonight?
It's cold outside
Would you let me come inside, make it right?

Here it's clear that I'm not getting better
When I fall down you put me back together

My hairdo isn't cool
And my lips are lined with drool
I'm a mess since you left
You can use this fool
I'm a useless tool
It's cold outside
Is there someone there tonight?
It's cold outside
Would you let me come inside
And make it right?

Here it's clear that I'm not getting better
When I fall down you put me back together

I'm alone
In my room
I don't know what to do
When I fall down you put me back together

And when I daydream
We're eating ice cream
It's such a nice scene
But then I wake up crying
I know I've just be lying

Right here it's clear that I'm not getting better
When I fall down you put me back together
Here it's clear that I'm not getting better
When I fall down you put me back together

I'm alone
In my room
I don't know what to do
When I fall down you put me back together
