Overview
Written in 2017, Topical Tunes for Troubled Times includes lyrics written and sung by Brian J. Kenny with his son, Kevin J. Kenny, as well as instrumentals written by Jason Cropper. The album was produced almost entirely by Cropper.
According to Kenny, Topical Tunes for Troubled Times was recorded two times. The first time the album was recorded it was based on a 12-string acoustic guitar. The tracks became very heavy with double drums, and was described as "audacious and unruly". Cropper suggested that the initial recordings of the album would become pre-production demos. After six months, Kenny and his son Kevin J. Kenny rerecorded the foundation for most the tracks in one night.[1]
On November 10, 2018, Brian J. Kenny performed the songs from Topical Tunes for Troubled Times live for the first time alongside Jason Cropper. The album was officially released on November 15, 2018.
