Weezerpedia Discord Q&A with Karl Koch - December 2023

hailey :3: not sure if it's been asked, do you know who made the lil radio medley before each concert for the indie rock road trip?

Moony B'deedle: I did ask a little bit ago, he said it was a company hired and they only did the segments no full songs

Karl: i believe the radio medley was recorded by Max our musical director (and possibly some of his team?), who also helped shape the show (as in get the setlist into a workable order and come up with ideas for the transitions between songs and the overall pacing etc.

Burnst Jamp: Karl, do you have a picture of (or know the issue # of) the French Rock Sound magazine review of Press Any Key?

Burnst Jamp: New top priority on "The List": Rock Sound mag Karlophone review pic!

Karl: i do have that issue! That was written by Thomas Vanderbeghe (sp?) a French rock journalist who was a major weezer fan (he might have contributed to weez pieces in Rock Sound around 2000-1). but now he's a full time comedian in France! I'll try to dig it up (see aforementioned "Vault Jam" that ive only started to address

Burnst Jamp: Out of curiosity, have you got the audio from this interview on-hand? I can't find it on WP/alt.music.weezer/the old SG fansites

Karl: i feel like i should have that, but cant be positive. We definitely would have asked for a copy from the interviewer. this need to be added to the Vault Things to Find list

Burnst Jamp: Also interested in the Fox Rox TV interview from 2003, if that ever made it to air

Karl: oy, need more info, dont recall that name at all

Burnst Jamp: SG recorded some songs for a San Diego TV broadcast in '03 in the midst of your guys' touring (I think after the Foo Fighters shows?), and apparently an interview happened after (presumably also for airing? It was a music talk show sorta thing). The songs were posted onto YouTube, but I haven't seen an interview anywhere

Some text you wrote approximately 20 years ago explains it in-depth on that page

Karl: i see! Yeah... i wonder if i videotaped that interview (or all of them that day?) i did (usually) have a vidcam and i do have some TSG tapes... havent gotten to 2003 yet though in my digitizing madness. Hell im mostly in 1991-2 still. Unfortunately that project stalled out once we moved last winter. its all set up equipment-wise though (as is my music recording situation), its just a matter of re-allocation of time and other resources.

Burnst Jamp: Then, a TSG question that's a little easier to answer: Do you recall a signed poster being sold alongside the 3-CD set of Land Air Sea, back in 2003? A blog post from the time mentions it being a bonus (alongside a copy of Life Goes By, apparently). The Cinder Block listing isn't archived so I can't check directly

Burnst Jamp: Aside from album flats and concert posts that happen to feature them, that'd be the only official SG poster (to my knowledge)

Karl: 1. you are doing the lords work
2. that space twins tour did not happen
3 poster does sound familiar, but thats another "look in vault" question. Theres a decent chance i dont have one, only because i cant picture what it looks like, and i did organize all my posters (somewhat) within the last 2-3 years (prior to moving)
