"When We Were Young" is a song written by Rivers Cuomo in collaboration with Josh Alexander.
Background
An unreleased song that was worked on during the making of Everything Will Be Alright in the End. The song is not currently in circulation, but has been played to fans, who have attempted to recreate the song by memory. The song's verse melody was later appropriated for the song "High As A Kite" from The Black Album.
The song's chorus melody has been compared to the 1967 song "A Whiter Shade of Pale" by British rock band Procol Harum. It is unknown whether this similarity was the reason for the song being reworked.
