Overview
"Always" was written by Rivers Cuomo in December of 1999, around the same time as the song "Island in the Sun." The song is first known to have been revisited at Cello Studios on January 2, 2001, during the recording sessions for The Green Album. The song consists of Cuomo singing over acoustic guitar. On January 20, strings were added by a trio led by arranger David Campbell.[1] A full-band version of the song, featuring a Farfisa organ, was also attempted in early January, but was abandoned.[2][3]
Two versions of the song were released officially. Due to an apparent oversight, Cuomo accidentally approved the wrong version of the song. This incorrect version, clocking in at 2:05, was released as a B-side for various single releases of "Island in the Sun."[4] In October of 2001, Cuomo located the longer, correct recording of the song[5] and, on October 13, entered the studio with Jack Joseph Puig and mixed the recording. [6] This version appears on the Los Angeles-area radio station charity compilation Kevin and Bean: Swallow My Eggnog, as well as on a promotional single exclusive to France. The longer edit was also released as a free, 128kbps MP3 file on the band's official site.

Lyrics
Always
Sing your love to me softly
Sweetly turn the pages on always
In the night, I was born
Lived a new summer morn'
Always
Sing your love, come to me
'Cause I was destined to be
Always
Rue the day that I loved you
Sweetness came on down from above you
In the night, I was born
Lived a new summer morn'
Always
Sing your love, come to me
'Cause I was destined to be
No control
In your arms
Letting go
I hope you cope
With me tonight
In the night, I was born
Lived a new summer morn'
Always
Sing your love, come to me
'Cause I was destined to be
