"Homely Girl" is the first single of Rivers Cuomo's and Scott Murphy's project Scott & Rivers.

Overview

"Homely Girl" was co-written by Rivers Cuomo and Japanese songwriter Shusui in November 2009. Cuomo released the original, mostly lyricsless demo on the music collaboration website Indaba Music, offering $208 to the person who would produce a better demo. The winner was American musician Barak Shpiez (under the moniker "Beware Fashionable Women"). On December 23, 2009 Cuomo posted "We've decided to roll with the version by "Beware Fashionable Women". Next I'll write the lyrics and we'll record the song for real. Look for the finished product on my debut Japanese language solo album next year." The planned solo album, which would have been titled ザ クマモトキッド (The Kumamoto Kid), never materialized, instead morphing into the Scott & Rivers project after teaming up with musician Scott Murphy.
