Overview

The first of two new songs, alongside "Motorology 3:39," performed by the band upon their reformation in early 2006. The song was in heavy rotation during their co-headlining return tour with the Rentals that summer and was in contention for inclusion on their fourth studio album, Pasadena. On December 27 2014, a studio demo of the song was released as a "belated Xmas present" for the PledgeMusic backers of Boomtown.[1]

Lyrics

Lift off a veteran
There wasn't much going on back then
So we auctioned off our time
And when it got critical
Well it was only political
I never meant to do you harm
I must of slept through the alarm

I must admit your wings took me by surprise
I couldn't see any magic when you stared in my eyes
But if you only knew the pain that I took, you'd give me a look

Nothing I say I do
Ever makes any sense to you
But I do it any way
There's just one rule for us
Daedalus said to Icarus
"Don't you fly too close to the sun
If your wings melt your day is done"

I must admit the sun took me by surprise
I couldn't see it coming as it stared in my eyes
But if you only knew the fall that I took
You'd open up and give me a look
Come on honey
Open my book, just give me a look

Long nights strange lights
Always the same just a face in a flame with no name
Slave
Long nights strange lights
Always the same just a face in a frame with no name
Slave
Long nights strange lights
You primp and you preen for to see and be seen on the scene
Free
Long nights strange lights
You primp and you preen for to see and be seen on the scene
