Overview
"Let It All Hang Out" began as a demo recorded by Rivers Cuomo in 1999 (listed in the Catalog O' Riffs as "Hangout", entry #16). The demo's guitar riff and title were repurposed into a new song nearly ten years later, co-written by Cuomo with Jermaine Dupri. The song was featured as downloadable content for Rock Band and Rock Band 2 in December 2009, along with "Beverly Hills" and "(If You're Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To." The Rock Band version of the song features a slightly different mix. An early version of the song, produced by Jacknife Lee, leaked online in 2017.
The song was performed live in concert in late 2009 through mid-2010. The song was typically preceded by the instrumental track "Woolly Mammoth".
Band Commentary
Rivers: "Let It All Hang Out", that's actually a riff I had laying around for a long time, on the electric guitar. We just needed another song, so I pulled it out. Jermaine Dupri came in and started doing a vocal line over the top of it. It's really fun.
Brian: During that song Jacknife Lee had a lot to do with helping that song become a song. He really liked that riff and he kept pushing Rivers to make a song out of it. [1][citation needed]

Lyrics
I was driving this morning and sat in traffic on the way to work work
Soon as I got in, my boss is tripping and acting like a freaking jerk jerk
Me and my girl ain't speak in weeks and I can't remember the reason why why why
On top of that it's a recession, I feel like Jay-Z; this can't be life life
Tonight I'm leaving all my worries and my problems in the house
I'm going out with my homies and we gonna let it, gonna let it
All hang out, let it all hang out, it's the last day of the weekend, boy I need to release
Let it all hang out, let it all hang out
I'm going out with my homies and we gon' let it all hang out
Time for me to leave this place, don't feel like its going to come come come
I got bills on top of bills and I don't know where I'm getting my money from from
The walls feel like their closing in, I honestly don't feel like I can make it
I'm sad and mad and I can't take it, that's why
Me and JD chillin in the shack
Sharing Chiclets from the same pack
180-proof Vitamin Water
Energy flavor
Take us to your daughter
I wanna see you pretty ladies on the dance floor
Put your hands up in the air like you don't care no more
We gonna hit the town tonight, we were born to rock
"Hangout" lyrics
And I
Let it all hang out
If you have a doubt
Call me if you can
Don't you understand?
Oh
